  • Sublimating a baby grow… newbie question

Posted by Paul Larkin on March 1, 2009 at 1:51 pm

    Hi all…
We have recently got a sublimation printer and we have had our first "play" with it. Last night we were very successful in placing an image onto a mat – we were over the moon! This morning I attempted to place one of my designs on a white cotton baby grow but the image has been left on the garment quite fuzzy and almost cloudy. I was wondering if we are only supposed to use clothing specifically for sublimation or maybe our temperature and timing was out on the heat press. We’d be very grateful for any advice 😀 Happy spring everyone …. Charlie 😛

    Hi Paul,
I don’t know much about sublimation but I think it has to be polyester garments or items covered with a polyester solution. If the baby grow wasn’t specifically for sublimation it will not work.

    Cheers John

As already said, you need a very high polyester count in the garments to be able to sublimate onto them.

But if you know someone with a sewing machine there’s a way round it 🙂 – especially on kiddies clothes.
Sublimate on to polyester as usual, then use as an applique on to the garment 😀 😀

Or remove the stitching process and use adhesive applique’s.

Better still, get hold of polyester baby grows. Cheap enough in bulk from Printer Owners. We’ve had some great feedback from customers about the softness of the material. Diversify with your designs and you should build a healthy market.

That’s the way to go 😀
