  • Stock photo source please?

Posted by Hugh Potter on August 14, 2017 at 12:20 pm

    Hi all,
In the main, I use shuttertock for my hi-res photo and most vector images.

I now find myself in the situation where I need maybe 20+ images – My wife is updating our other business website ahead of a big press release by a charity she’s involved with (She does event planning and fine catering), I think that £6 an image is just too much for that amount.

    Any recommendations please?

We use Pexels from time to time. Image range is limited but quality wise they are fine. It’s free.

If you’re using that many, the likes of 123rf do monthly subscriptions, with unlimited downloads, it may be cheaper to go down that route. We have in the past.

    Thanks guys,
I usually buy a 5 download lump for about £35, in all honesty that can either last me a week or someimes 6 months! I looked at subscription but just felt I’d be wasting money long term.

I’ll take a look at both though.

I’ve used photodune.net in the past for paid photos, some are cheap some are more expensive.

Another brilliant website is unsplash.com which is completely free with stunning photos. Might not have the full range but its worth a browse for a new screensaver everynow and then 😉

Do you use Signelements great for photos, vectors, vehicle outlines it’s around €350 per year with 200 downloads per month.
    It’s good value.

I use Adobe Stock photos web site. But I’m not too sure on the pricing compared to other subscription sites. I used to use Dollarphotoclub, but they were bought out by Adobe and I purchased about 100 image credits before the changeover and the credits were carried over before the new price structure was put in place.

Quite a good range of images, but I think that Shutterstock and 123RF may have a bigger library of images.

Also, you really need to check the small print on a lot of the ‘free image’ sites. While they may be free for personal use, a lot of them do say not for reproduction or commercial use, or that you have to accredit to the original source.

Vectorstate is pretty good for £79/yr (I got it for £35 when on offer)

I generally use Shutterstock for photos

We mainly use shutterstock and from time to time take advantage if the £150 one month package and download a shed load of images to keep on file for future projects. There is a site called alamy stock photo who will give you some free credits if you give them a ring too.

Adobe Stock, Smaller monthly commitment than most with additional images at very reasonable rate, plus vat comes off before sale if you enter your vat number.

Limited library compared to some of the bigger companies but always find something that works plus the downloads roll over to next month and so on if you don’t use which many others dont.

Dreamstime is really good. Very large range and nowhere near the costs. Have used them for years.
