Windows were blown out of some buildings on the coast – with the Bureau of Meteorology warning of 100km/h gusts – and police sealed off part of central Surfers to ensure tourists and locals were not hit by flying debris.

In Brisbane, dozens of roads have been cut by flooding and one of the city’s busiest arteries, Bowen Bridge Road, has been cut by flooding, creating major traffic problems.

There was also a mass rescue under way from nearby Downey Park, with 54 people stuck in about 20 vehicles.

Royal Brisbane and Womenโ€™s Hospital was also affected with flooding in their main carpark.

Almost 500 students across five schools โ€“ Aspley, Kenmore, Redbank Plains, Pullenvale, and Brookfield โ€“ are completely stranded and they and 65 staff and seven parents will spent the night in their classrooms.

Police are urging people to avoid non-essential travel if possible, given the treacherous weather conditions and widespread flooding.

The roof of my office and my shed have sprung leaks, fortunately missing any expensive equipment, but its too dangerous to get on the roof to fix it.

We have been without power most of the day too. Got power back after dark, about 90 minutes ago…

    Sorry to hear that Shane.

On the bright side – it might kill all the spiders.

I’ve just finished the book you kindly gave me, "See Australia and Die", and I find it amazing that there is anyone left alive there anyway. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Thanks friends….

Its 10pm here now, just had warnings that tomorrows weather will be worse ๐Ÿ™ I have water everywhere here, about 2" around the house at the moment. and other few inches and it will be in the house ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Up north at Daves place he’s had 300mm in 24 hours and flooding all around. They had visitors today who can’t get home, so have guests for the night. ๐Ÿ™„

My biggest worry is that we have 6 massive trees in my back yard that, if blown over, will crush my house and my shed. The ground is so waterlogged, trees are falling over everywhere ๐Ÿ˜•

John, glad you enjoyed the book mate. I’d like to say its an exaggeration, but unfortunately that would be an exaggeration too. :lol1:

Take care all, I’ll hopefully go to work to tomorrow have find everything dry and secure ๐Ÿ˜‰ Amazing how your world stops when you have no power. My kids were totally bored with no TV, Computer, Radio or lights. They weren’t to keen to go outside and play either ๐Ÿ˜›

Good luck to you Shane mate,
I’ve been flooded before, lost everything in the house about two years ago.
Get everything that involves paperwork into sealable plastic tubs mate. Worst thing in the world is loosing those important documents like passport/birth cert/Insurance policy.

    Hey Shane

How did it go overnight mate? Watching it on the news last night – didn’t look too good for a lot of people…

You wouldn’t believe it – blue skies and sunshine up here at the moment! We’re normally the ones with wet feet, whilst Brisbane is screaming out for the rain…

Hopefully you come out the other end intact and safe mate.

    Cheers

Hi Shane, I hope you and your family, -and your business-are safe and intact.

Seems a bit naff that you are usually telling us how lovely/warm it is in Aus when we are wet or freezing, and now the boot is on the other foot (an old English saying) but it really is no laughing matter, I hope you all come through without too much hardship.

    Thanks Friends,

Its the calm before the storm here at the moment.

Down south they are getting a drenching too, about 20 klm’s from here actually. The Gold Coast is a mess. Hate to be on holidays there this week.

Woke up this morning to some serious sized branches falling from trees. One missed my mums aviary by about 4". Would have crushed the structure if it had landed on it.

Storm clouds are coming back over as I type, with warnings of more bad weather this afternoon.

Talking to Dave last night, he’s Ok too. All is safe here though, thanks for your concern.

I hope the storm tonight isn’t to bad though, it was bad enough last night. We were supposed to go out last night, but the police requested no one travel on the roads except for emergency travel.

    Update:

We were spared the nasty storms this evening. They skirted around us and dumped more rain and gale force (same force as a category 2 cyclone) winds on the coast.

Its causing some real damage in Northern NSW now. Got a few friends down there doing it pretty tough. Low lying areas are being evacuated tonight, ready for the rivers to break their banks in the morning.

Just hear on the radio that Sunday is forecast for severe storms again in Brisbane. The damage bill so far is the highest our state has experienced if you believe the insurance boffins.

Nigel, done a quick check today and none of my signs have come down.

Wouldn’t like to be living in the Q1 though. http://www.q1.com.au/
