  • Stand off locator sizes?

Posted by Matt Hards on December 22, 2008 at 3:57 pm

    Hi guys and gals.

I have a customer who needs a stand off locator of 8mm, its for a conservation area, so the planning people are being very picky. Ihave been quoted from Brimark, but they are only giving a 12mm stand off option. Is there any available anywhere that are smaller.

If not do you think cutting down the 12mm one down to 8mm, is an option. If i say marker them off with a ruler and cut straight across the top edge, with a saw/blade/scissors??

and by the way MERRY XMAS to you all 🙂

Depending on what you are mounting them on, you could make 4mm sink into the surface quite easy, giving you the 8mm stand-off required. If cutting them, also buy a set of metric thread taps as cutting will damage the threads enough to make getting the caps back in a little difficult.

Sorry, thought you were talking about the aluminium decorative fixings mate…

yeh as has been said snap-fix do some decent quality nylon locator’s and the like.

ill be honest, we stock the three sizes but i haven’t a clue the actual exact depth of the three. we basically have small, medium and large. the size of the letters is the indicator for what size of locator’s we use.

don’t cut them down. there is a lip inside each female size that catches the male locator as it is inserted. thats where you will hear the little click into place! if you cut the locator down you will remove the internal lip.

i am back at work on Monday so ill check the sizes when i am in.
