Stand off locator bonding
Posted by Kevin Mahoney on July 28, 2021 at 9:52 amMorning all. I’m looking for opinions on what method to use for bonding studs to the back of acrylic letters. Just about to run out of the fusion liquid but never been thrilled at seeing the big cancer warning on the side. What are my options?

Morning Rob, heard about Tensol on here but never used it. We usually flush mount acrylic so not had much call for studs. All the years I’ve spent fitting bought in letters with studs already fixed, never once asked how they were bonded. I’ll give it a try. Can you suggest a good supplier

I buy it from Amari/Europoint.
its a 2 part liquid you mix that sets in 5 minutes and can be fitted after about 30 minutes or so. -
We use snapfix, sometimes penlock. It’s a 2 part mix. Stinks. But very similar to what rob is saying.
We leave letters face up over night. Sometimes add some weight if it’s a big piece.
Will be re-reading the tubes tomorrow though.

Looks like the base chemical for all of these adhesives are pretty much the same & should definitely not be put on your chips. ‘Known to cause cancer’ on the data sheet suggests we should be using this stuff with the roller shutter up

the best one I have ever used was Acrifix.
I used it way back when I was an apprentice. cured in the same time it takes isopropanol to evaporate, as in seconds. The liquid was like water and very little was needed. although it could be a pain if you were not working on a totally flat surface.
they then brought other versions of it out that took different times to cure and was a bit thicker, again, great stuff and I don’t remember any heavy smells and if you got it on your skin, it just evaporates and left a white blemish.very difficult to get it in the UK now, but I think the stuff you see being used in lots of Chinese built-up letter videos is this, looks and applies the exact same.

Yeah I’ve seen these chinese built up letter videos & their magic liquid, & was kind of hoping it was fusion. It isn’t though

yep, I think the stuff they are using is this. but the original watery stuff.
because of how little was needed it lasted forever. might try getting some again, looked a couple of years ago and it was places like India and abroad that were using it. maybe it’s here in the UK but under a different brand. -
Tensol for me also – I use Indasol for D/S tapes and glue and they do an equivalent
version.
Be sure to remember, Tensol 12 (Internal) and Tensol 70 (external)
