Stained Glass Window Graphics
Posted by Andy Gorman on March 16, 2004 at 10:41 pmHaving seen Rob’s ace demo on stained glass I thought I’d post a pic of a similar thing I did a few years ago. I was quite pleased with it but would like to practice this technique a bit more because it was a lot of fun. Basically it’s a gerber edge print with self adhesive lead bought from a DIY shop.
(It’s my own front door by the way, so the customer was always going to be easy to please 🙂 )

Smart leading work there Big G 😀 How long did that take you to do?
Love the letterbox as well, ensures that the postman knows exactly what and where to place his deliveries 😉 😉
Cheers, Dewi

Couple of hours Dew, leading the inside as well, of course.
It is a bit of a waste having any writing on the letterboxes round here; most of the postmen can’t bloody read!G

missed this one.. 😮
i think you done a great job mate.. brill stuff. thanks for taking the time to load it mate. 😉when you say edge printed, where do you mean? 🙄

The different shades of colour were printed with transparent edge foils onto clear vinyl and stuck to the glass on the inside (so the central piece is 1 part only). In any case it’s North facing and has shown no sign of fading or wear after 5 years. The glass was textured on one side and smooth on the inside. Next time I wouldn’t mind trying some of the textured vinyls in your demo Rob, to get different textures in different areas.

very cool idea mate.. do you know that many stained glass companies now sell this type of print on clear vinyl. i dont mean as big as yours or anything like that.. but they would print say a 18 inch deep by 11inch wide oval onto clear with a picture of say a swan on a lake. stick it in the centre of a door panel then pipe round the edge with lead.. looks pretty effective if the right kind of picture is used.. 🙂
brill stuff mate 😉

Typically a few months after I did this a new neighbour moved in. Self employed, working from home making…….you guessed it, stained glass. He does them the traditional way and his work is the absolute bees knees.

I think you are quite clever Big G.
That was a really nifty idea and it looks
very classy. Figures someone would move in close by who does the real McCoy. You can get your mail in your boxers and no one can see now!
