  • Spell checker, thoughts please?

Posted by Robert Lambie on April 11, 2005 at 2:14 am

the spell checker for posting on the boards has been upgraded to an improved and personalised version of the software.
basically now i can add words such as di-bond, mactac etc and the checker will identify them and correct the spelling. (just dont know if i am the one for the job at loading the words 😳 :lol1: )

i am basically wondering, what you think of the checker, did you actualy use it?

please use the vote fascilities above.

I have never actually used the spell check on here. I almost always “preview” my post before I submit it to try to catch any mistakes. I do have some sort of weird complex I have developed over the years of getting slightly “annoyed” when I see words misspelled. I’m not sure why because I think I just spelled misspelled wrong. I have seen some great posts on here that would make my English teacher roll over in her grave. I don’t think it is a problem though. I see this forum as a place to learn something new, talk to friends, and to let loose and not worry about getting the spelling right. As long as everyone double checks their spelling on a sign before sending it out we’ll all be alright. Having said all that I am going to try the spell checker now and see how it works.
Basically my opinion is “It’s good to have on here, but I have no use for it (alldough eye probbable shood)”

I sometimes use it ….. sometime don’t, but I like to have it there for those “better to have it” moments.

I tend not to use it for long winded posts, simply because a lot of the words such as you’ve mentioned haven’t been available ,therefore it’s taken longer to spell check than write the post in the first place.

I welcome an updated version – thanks!

Um…. 😳 Look at my post total…. if I used a spell checker every time I’d need to setup a bed, toilet facilities and a small kitchenette next to the PC, let alone find an alternative income to the shop! 🙄

I think the spell checker in theory is a brilliant idea, but I doubt its used religiously by anyone (could be wrong). Humble opinion, but you can usually tell what someone is saying even with spelling errors, so it doesn’t make much difference one way or the other.

Cunning plan though, fill the spell checker with rude words then setup and autoreplace function, that’d spice up the Saturday night banter! :lol1:

I think it’s good to have the spell checker although i never used it (I know i should 😳 ), but that might help some of UKSG members. 😀 😀

Just kidding, could always be handy to some especially the non-English speakers and i think there are quite a few already.

I agree with the sentiments here not worry unduly about spelling

I think spellchecker is handy to have nonetheless, though I don’t use it
