Posted by David Lowery on July 30, 2007 at 11:48 am

Christine has been caught speeding in Wales :lol1:

    35mph in a 30mph zone :lol1:

She has to go on a speed awareness course and would like to know what it entails. Anyone been as daft (to get caught) and done this course? ๐Ÿ™„

a ‘Speeding Awareness Course’ WTF! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
What a spectacular waste of public money that’s bound to be!!!!!!!!!!

Buy her a TomTom and load in all the camera info into it and it will tell her when she’s approaching one (even mobile hotspots) ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve never had any points on my licence or fines, not even had a warning for speeding ……… (angel)

Tom-Tom was on but it was a camera in the back of a van ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

She had the choice of a ยฃ60 fine and 3 points on her licence or ยฃ60 speed awareness course fee and no points on her licence. She already has 6 points so thought it better to take the course.

Could have been worse, could have been Me :lol1:

the point is every one knows that there is a fixed one so slow down for it, so put a mobile one in and they get caught out!

Nick it was positioned barley 50 yards after the fixed camera so when you slow down for the fixed camera you can see the camera van and not accelerate from the original fixed camera ๐Ÿ™„

As Christine already has six points I’m surprised they gave her the chance of an awareness course. She is obviously a "cereal" offender and should be take off the road asap. ๐Ÿ˜€

Even though it means being lectured on how to drive by a spotty kid who has only recently been promoted from a kiddy car, it has to be done to avoid the points.

As for my own misdemeanours, my speed was so far in excess of the limit they didn’t give me the option. *rofl*

Yeah, right. Like I’m going to incriminate myself. ๐Ÿ˜€

There’s some beauties on YouTube. Some plonkers giving plod all the evidence they need and even showing them where they live. Evolution isn’t working. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve never been clocked as I mentioned but my hubby has.
On his bike a good few years ago. He overtook an unmarked police car at 145mph. Saw it the second he pulled out and opened the throttle. He continued past them then pulled in and slowed down ๐Ÿ˜€ They followed and pulled him over.
Both were bikers …………. told him how fast he was going, admired his bike and then said he’d have to change his private plate as the spacing was illegal and then said ………. ‘oh and don’t speed like that again, have a nice day’ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
    How lucky was he!!!!!!

Time to upgrade her sat nav Dave, my Road Angel Navigator lets me know the location of the mobile camera vans as well as fixed cameras. I am sure that one of the tom toms has this function as well. Then you just need to get her a laser detector for the other hand held ones.

Ah, Dick Brunstrom land… (That was D1ck as in Richard…)

VERY surprised she’d been offered the awareness course – they usually go for max penalties & max fines!

Will probably consist of a lecture, some group ‘therapy’ q&a, possibly a video of crashes / victims…do the remorse thing…yada yada…basically it’s to be seen to be re-educating the public that driving a stolen MOT failure with no tax or insurance whilst drunk at 30mph isn’t nearly as dangerous as driving competently at 34mph… Grrr!

To answer your question, I was invited as a motorcycle instructor to evaluate a course for the local speed initiative. If this is the same, they will discuss speed naturally, effects etc. They also touch on some very interesting statistics and also make you aware of the realities of killing someone or dieing your self if you use speed in an inappropriate manner.

It really is an interesting course if you go into it it with an open mind and not the attitude that you have heard it all before. We were shown some interesting videos used to test your powers of observation. Amazing what you miss even if you think you are concentrating. Don’t mean to go on, ’cause even an instructor has the odd moment of madness ๐Ÿ™‚ But if you talk to most traffic and bike cops, they are mostly upset by inappropiate and unnecessary speed and understand that sometimes, it can be safe to exceed the limit.

Hope she enjoys the course, it really is quite interesting.

If you got caught 3 times, you need to go on the course,
    or be penalised, which ever.

Chris needs to be more aware when driving.
Speed does not kill, not paying attention does.

Being caught simply means you are not paying attention to your surroundings when driving.

So speed is inappropriate, when in the vicinity of a camera, If you are looking far enough ahead, you should never be caught.
Look at the camera as if it were a child unexpectedly jumping out in front of you. If a camera can catch you, you can hit that kid.

so even though we all break the rules, better a fine or course, than hitting a kid,

Sorry to preach, we all take speeding as a victimless offense until

    (touch wood)

    something goes wrong.

Then if a young relative was injured, or god forbid, killed by a speeding driver,
would we be so flippant? And we would call for the severest penalties for the speeding driver.

What I am trying to say, if you get caught for speeding, you are not paying attention, so it may be a reminder in future, to pay attention to the road ahead.

I hate to say it but…

Peter is right as usual. :appl:

How come you’re always right you bugger ๐Ÿ™„

On a different note – Marcella could never get a speeding ticket simply because all she has to do is a bit of name dropping and mention to the arresting "copper" that she was also one of the "filth" way back when ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wasnt caught, but done 160mph in France and Spain, about seven years ago. (I bottled out doing more, not the car) I did my first ton+ in the sixties, which was about the same, relatively, given the technology available.

I dont condone speeding, (do like it though)

From what i hear, the course is to show what can happen due to speed. there are videos played and images, they are used to shock, so its possible that some of the footage is not pleasant to see. but it will slow her down, maybe not for long, but it will have an effect on her.

As for speed, i dont normally speed on roads, but i do track days, and when doing an article for a jap car magazine, i had my speed recorded as 187mph

i dont think i’d like to do that on any highway, the car becomes very scary lol

I got flashed last year ๐Ÿ™ 38 in a 30…it was my first time, I would have done the course if it was offered. Annoying as the road I got caught on was a 40 about 6 months before & even now on the same bit of road I have to slow down, it just one of them roads ๐Ÿ™„

That’s also in today’s Daily Mail, who also report that it was slightly less than the 175mph achieved by Daniel Nicks on his Honda Fireblade. Nicks got six weeks porridge and a two year ban.
