Years ago me and my wife went camping in the lakes, we were just kids at the time, didn’t pack enough clothes or food and ended up, due to the persistent rain, in the campsite pub all day and most of the night. It never stopped raining all week :lol1: as it tends to in the lakes. The pub had an old jukebox but had few records we liked. The one that got played the most was "There must be an angel" by the Eurythmics. After 2 days it got scratched and wouldn’t play anymore – rest of the week we played the B side. :lol1:

    Happy times

What songs bring back memories for you?

Mmmmm, anything from the 80’s because that’s when I turned 18 & got my driving license……good times 😀

Dexys, Thomson Twins, The Specials, Kraftwerk, Frankie GTH, Human League……could go on all night 🙄

& I can still remember buying a compilation cassette called "Now that’s what I call Music" good idea but don’t think it came to anything 🙄

My early life was one long soundtrack.

So many songs remembered for different reasons. Some sad, some romantic, and many recalling the good times.

    Here’s one.

The first Rock concert I ever went to was Roxy Music. Their opening song was Do the Strand and it completely blew me away.

Back then H&S hadn’t meddled to the extent they have now and the music was played VERY LOUD. You could feel it as well as hear it. It was impossible to speak to the person next to you it was that loud. Consequently you experienced the concert rather than just listened to it.

Here’s the same song recorded around about that time for the BBC. (Fast forward to 1.20 to avoid having to listen to the pretentious introduction.)

ooh loads of songs have loads of memories for me, from childhood holidays to Emily when she was a baby and used to jiggle around every time she heard UB40 and Pato Banton sing Baby Come Back. 😀

But this song reminds me of the first gig I went to, it was 1985 ……. this was their opening song. Brilliant!

ooh Marcella my fav ever band, love that track.

As for memories, Like Neil there’s loads of 80’s tracks memories when I first met my wife I loved Prefab Sprout, brings back good memories.

BUT the one I will choose is this… when I lived at home and came back from a club very early one morning I found myself locked out 🙁 I eventually spent the night in my Dads car in the garage, very cold and unable to get to sleep, I turned the radio on and this played and has stuck in my mind ever since, just a beautiful piece of music..good old Acka

    Chill and enjoy 🙂

Those were the days, eh, Martin. 😀

Fortunately it never happened to me. Primarily because the house door was never locked. Cars too. They were all left out on the drive with the keys in the ignition. 😀

I don’t very often get nostalgic, but life really was better back in the sixties. Round our way it was anyhow. 😎

See the Roxy line up back in 2001 when they toured again. Absolutely brilliant!! Re-Make/Re-Model was the first track thumped out.

Two brothers who were 9 and 7 years older than me ensured that I was spoon fed Roxy, Bowie, and velvet underground from a tender age! lol

First concert…. Bowies Serious Moonlight Tour in ’83. Icehouse were there too, they were good. Only seems like yesterday! 😮

ah Roxy – my fav band of all time too (though slightly before my time) never saw the re-union but seen Bryan Ferry a couple of times. Dreamhome i feel is the most mind blowing song they have!

Best band ever live GNR at height of their fame in 1991 – awesome!

Would love to see Pink Floyd (but Pink may have to suffice!) that must be some spectacle Lynn.

Most songs that bring back memories for me though are sad songs, nothing compares to you Sinead O’connor, in dreams – Roy Orbison lover letters, falling -Julee cruise, Last 3 from Blue Velvet soundtrack – brilliant! first time ever I saw your face, Roberta flack, and Joan armatrading – just about any of her love songs!

Men without hats too – we can dance always brings back memories of dwarfs!

John where I live – still leave my door open and keys in ignition as do most here so it does still happen (but it is still the sixties here, mind)

Acker Bilk’s Stranger on the Shore. Partly because I was introduced to him around the time he made the record. He was usually ‘nissed as a pewt’ and always insisted on singing it then as Stranger on the Floor!
Also met Kenny Ball on a couple of occasions.

Long time ago, but happy days 🙂 🙂

    John
in the sixties it didnt matter if you left your keys in the ignition or not,
cars were so easy to get into and hotwire,
Same goes for front doors left open, its doesn’t make a difference if you lock your house at night, it assumes there are people going round every night trying doors,!

The difference is, now insurance companies will not pay out if you don’t take reasonable precautions. I have a pair of rose tinted glasses as well,
crime did exist in the sixties, as it does now, and always has, I remember my parents telling me in 1968, how the world had changed since they were young!

    😀

Woah, there’s so many songs bring back memories…….

Yazoo’s Upstairs at Eric’s album played continuously in the car while camping in Guernsey in 82 with my then girlfriend (now my wife).

Pink Floyd The Wall gigs, saw both at Earls Court in 1980 and 81 and always remember traveling back late on the tube to Paddington packed in like sardines and the lights flickering on and off all the time.

First proper gig was Gordon Giltrap in 78 (remember Heartsong BBC’s Holiday programs theme tune). First rock group, Blue Oyster Cult in 79 the year I started working for a living……..

Seen Genesis loads of times but their Six of the Best benefit concert for Peter Gabriel in October 82 lives on in my grey matter, rained most of the day in Milton Keynes bowl and they weren’t as tight as in the old days but still awesome.

    and many many more………

oh yeh, on the guest list to see Radiohead 10 or so years ago cos Tina studied with the girlfriend of one of lighting tech guys, what a night. 😀

I think it was Kenny Ball and his Jazz Men if I remember correctly Lynn, lovely guy, used to come to Nottingham a lot in the early 60’s. All the group wore blue suits, very smart!
Just loved that clarinet solo of Acker Bilk’s though, and to chat with him was a highlight I’ve never forgotten-but I’m not telling you what he said 😀 😀 😳 😳 😳

    Wow, some great memories here.

For me, Kenny Ball and His Jazz men are near the top of the list… Billy Joel too – my first concert experience, John Farnham.. … lots to mention.

My earliest memory is the Andrew Sisters. My grandfather loved playing them when I was small.

The other is Hot August Night. Can’t help but think of my late uncle everytime I hear it. He worked for Yamaha Music, and used H.A.N. to demo their speakers and sound systems. I still see the grin on his face when he’d crank the stereo right up and everything would start vibrating… it was crystal clear tho :lol1:

I’m a bit partial to this version of Candyman though, originally by the Andrew Sisters. Brings back the old memories still, but my Grandfather would be less than impressed. 😉 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ_7srmo5cE
