    Hi everyone,

I’ve been lucky enough to aquire a Soljet Pro 3 XC540 as an upgrade from our versacamm. One of the features I was particularly interested in was the ability to print long runs unattended using the automatic take up.

I’ve hit some snags with this though because I don’t seem to be able to get the media to track through straight enough from the back of the machine and on to the take up, over a reasonable distance.

I’m putting the circular media rollers into the ends of the media cores so it rolls off nicely from the back – although I’m finding they have a tendency to work their way back out over a distance, particularly on full rolls of vinyl or banner.

Once attached to the take up on the front, if that doesn’t collect the media in a straight enough fashion, I seem to end up with an inevitable raised area of media around one of the end pinch rollers, probably where the media has become slightly twisted.

How on earth do you Soljet users set your media up in such a way that you feel confident of leaving the machine alone, or even over night without fear of the media twisting or those roll holders falling out at some point?

do you have the push in ones or the later push in and tighten type.
on the metal rollers on the back should be some collers to lock the media end rollers in place. when loading i pull evenly out about a mt then clamp, setup. then watch for any run out as the media is pulled back to the start point.

if using heavy banner use more than 2 rollers
if still running off have a good look at the rollers etc.
ps fantastic bit of kit good move.

Hey Chris, thanks for your reply.

Yep, I’m pleased with the machine, well, I’ll be ecstatic one this is sorted lol..

Yes these are the ones that you tighten up, I haven’t really used the black collars yet because I’m always doubtful how well the circular rollers are fitting into the media core.

So what I should be doing then is pushing them in and tightening up, then locking the black collars flush to the media rollers, pulling out some media, clamping the pinch rollers down then reverse the media back to the roll to see if it’s running out.

Do you find it easy enough to get the whole thing running straight even when attached to the take up, over long print distances, say 10 to 20metres

don’t know i would never do it, but quite often do several 3mt prints with out resetting the media.
i know people do leave the machines running but i would not, the pros do not over come the disaster and costs that you could be left with.

The take up is a good feature but it’s not the easiest thing to get set up without rolling around on the floor!

Therefore if you were only putting a few prints through at a time I don’t know that it’s worth using the take up, unless you somehow sheet cut jobs off, leave them on the take up, re-set the media and join it on the take up roll.

Otherwise I can see an endless round of taking that lower take up roll on and off the machine day in day out

Can’t remember who said it but it was a 100 $ tip.
Leave a Mt of media on the take up roll to tape to.
I read that as you say after grovelling on the floor
