Has anyone had any experience – good or bad – regarding the Solara Uv flatbed? Saw samples and the rep last Friday and was very impressed. (with the samples!)

Much more depth of colour (prints CMYK violet, green) than the Commander or others for less than half the price. Only drawbacks as far as I can see are 1) only 1500mm wide print area – but still takes 8×4 sheets, 2) doesn’t go edge to edge but you can fit a jig to compensate or rip down with a wall saw and 3) Not as fast as some.

Any learned friends have any comments – would be very grateful. The other machine we’re considering is the Vutek 200/600 – hell of a price but hell of a machine…

check over the ink costs Andrew, see how that fits in… again, signuk coming up, you get to see everything there and I think Mimaki are also releasing their new solvent products too… but I suspect something on the UV side will be at the show.

    AIT also sell the octopustoo.

Ink costs are ok – apparently the machine has been developed for signmakers as opposed to designers – hence the punchier colour gamut.

I see this as a step into flatbed printing and a probable upgrade in a year’s time.
