• software for dummies!

Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as idiotproof inexpensive cutting software available. I am still trying to buy my first proper cutter having had a stika a few years ago and I don’t know anything about software. I keep reading, that as well as the cutting software needed corel draw is also required, I’ve seen versions of corel draw running and at present would’nt have a clue how to use it. Does this make me a no hoper as far as vinyl cutting is cocerned or is there software which does not require corel draw. Any reply would be gratefully recieved

    Cheers Boab 🙄

    hi boab!!

i’m afraid there is no software for dummies!! you will just have to dive in and learn like most of us on the boards!! i know it sounds harsh but we were in the same boat as you at one point, a good few years ago and got our cutters with which software we chose and had to start without a clue how to run the programme to begin with!! so you will just have to get stuck in and learn how to use which ever programme you choose!! 😀 but remember we are all here to help you out, with any thing you need help with!! 😛 😛

The majority of our designs are done in Omega. It is unbelievably simple to use. Everything you type or draw is already a cutline. Just set the size and send it to the machine to cut. There is obviously loads more you can do with the program as you develop, but it is very easy to start with. It also prints straight to a Gerber Edge without going through any additional rip software.

There are two downsides to it though. I find it very limiting for full colour design, so we normally use corel draw 11 for that and it is pricey. Normally about £800 – £900 from what I remember.
