  • Snap cap alternatives – personal recommendations please?

Posted by Ewan Chrystal on November 6, 2014 at 2:03 pm

I currently use snap caps but i find them quite unsightly. What does everyone else use?
I’m thinking about changing to colour headed screws. Whats your opinions?

    Thanks

Up sell your customers to sign tray’s then you won’t have to worry about ugly fastenings on the face of a sign :lol1: :lol1:

There are other methods as well though that look a bit better Ewan, coloured circles of vinyl to cover the screw heads is one, coloured screws is another or just paint the screw heads.

Really depends on what the customer is prepared to pay as with any other job though.

Not even sure this would be classed as up selling as I understand the term, you are doing this because you know it will look far better & give the customer a far better image which should help their business.

Still up selling is something that I have never been any good at & never will be now 😳

Make up a portfolio of different types that you can use, easy for the customer to understand if they can see a picture, you could have a search about the net & find some really bad examples rather than use local businesses who might take offence if someone told them.

Personally think a lot of this job is educating the customer but I am guessing that applies to most industries.

    We buy VK plugs http://www.solarsignsupplies.com/vk-plu … gn-fixing/

and if we need to colour code we apply vinyl to the heads.

i’ve always liked the polytop screws, available in different colours.
Best price is from Ashby, you can mix and match colours to get your quantity discount.

They are not really suitable for anything smaller than A4 size though, they look a bit big.

Stemfix caps with matched supafix screws are very good – low profile – stay put and available in huge range of colours. Downside is that you need to buy buld quantities in the colours. Signgeer supply a couple of screw sizes and a small range of basic colours in small packs.
