SKY TV
Posted by L J. on April 20, 2005 at 7:42 pmHi, I know this is nothing to do with signs but this is really annoying me as I do not know the answer: 😳
Sky TV, do we the customer have to alter the current time that is shown on screen when you press the select or TV guide buttons?? as mine is 1 hour slow. I have had Sky about 4 /5 years now & I am sure I have never had this problem before.
Any help would be gladly appreciated as i cannot sleep at night worrying about it :lol1:

John, is the box plugged into a telephone line? Usually Sky want to do updates every now and then, the GMT +1 is classed as a system update I think 😕 We used to have Sky, but they virtually doubled our charges, so we quit and whizzed over to cable. With Sky, great channels, shame about the company 😕 🙄
Cheers, Dewi

Hello John,
We got Sky + last year and part of the contract was that we had the box connected to the phone line 24/7 as to receive updates / new channels etc just like Dewi mentioned.
But just like you have mentioned I have sometimes switched channels and noticed that the info box at the bottom of the screen that shows what your are watching an the start an finish time of that show sometimes is a hour behind and displays the program what was shown a hour earlier even though you are watching the program you wanted to see……..hope that makes sense.
I think it is just another conspiracy like Rob’s poll on spellchecker, ‘cus I use it everytime now since the poll.

unplug the sky box for 1 min and re-connect, this will allow it to re-download any settings and a fresh EPG. Might cure it

i have heard that dave…all to do with static build up!! 😮

Nik / Dave that sounds more like it, thanks.
I thought it funny because Sky update new Chanel’s on my setup without the phone line connected, so must be done through LNB on dish as i thought the clock would be corrected as well.
Let u know tomorrow.

The phone line has nothing to do with upgrades its just for ordering movies, each time you order an event or film it is stored on your box then in the night it rings home and tells them what you have ordered, so they can bill you.
All software updates are sent with the TV signal. Looks like you may have to get an engineer out, which should be free as you are subscribing to themSimon

I’ll tell you a good one about SKY year ago a friend of mine got a monsterous bout £800 i think it was maybe slightly less.
To cut a long story short turned out to be the sky box calling the automatic clock to sort the time it was doing it all the time. Did SKY compensate him er NO so be wary of it being plugged in to the phone socket. (this is what I was told anyway)Goop

Hi, Thought as i started this thread that i would report back as it is now sorted.
It has been cured by simple unplugging from the mains over night & then plug in next morning & hey presto sorted, jobs a good un. Thanks for every ones help on this subject.still leaving phone line unplugged though

I unplugged the phone line from mine the day it was fitted. I don’t see why they want you to keep it plugged in for the first year.
I find that the Sky box ‘crashes’ or locks up from time to time. Unplugging it from the mains for a minute fixes most problems. Except for the lack of anything worth watching!

Big G, what i don’t like is the way they keep putting up the prices without telling you! Unless they put it in that magazine that goes straight in the bin when it arrives.
