Not having one (SKY+), I would suspect that it will be ‘macromedia’ protected to prevent just that.
Of course there are always ways round everything…
MACROVISION – not MACROMEDIA. Doh!

I Have SKY+ you cannot record the films onto a DVD. I haven’t tried but I’m almost certain you cannot. i wouldnt think there would be much point in having the SKY record option of "Plus" if you could do it onto a DVD for keeps.

So is there no way of long term archiving what you have recorded….I just liked the idea of recording programmes downstairs on the sky box but then transferring them to DVD so I could watch them upstairs 🙁

I do.
There’s lots of stuff I record on Sky+, but don’t necessarily want a permanent copy of.
I wonder what the RS232 socket on the back does?
There is also a VCR scart output, so I would guess analogue recording is possible

even if you couldn’t transfer directly to a DVD recorder…would it be true to say that whatever is on the screen could be recorded to DVD ??
-
Just so you know, it is your DVD / HDD recorder that limits what it can & cannot record through the wonders on an international copy protection ‘MACROVISION encryption’ to prevent digital (and analogue) tape to tape, tape to DVD & DVD to DVD.
ie. A DVD / HDD recorder without this facility (ie. firmware flashed) will record just about anything cross media without the need to resort to a set of AV leads from the scart output of the Sky box and the resultant drop in signal quality.

As i said, never tried to record anything onto a dvd using my sky plus even though i have a dvd recorder that came with my TV i bought about a year ago. i just dont see the point… sky plus allows you to record all your films directly to the sky box to be watched whenever you want…
i remember my mate trying to record MT when sky came out many moons ago and all he got was a blue screen recorded.im sure John Wilson will know the answers to this one as i think he used to work for them or cable.

I’m interested. 😀
How did you do it?

John,
Simple scart connection from DVD to sky+ box
when you are ready to copy something over…set the DVD to record…go into your sky recorded programmes menu….select the programme you want to copy & press the red copy button …
The only down side is that you can only watch the programme you are copying but to be fair I have just set it away overnight & it works well

I dont know why anyone would need to record anything!
its all repeated next week anyway…

thanks for the update glen, good of you mate as i hate posts that fall flat without an actual yes or no, if you know what i mean? 😕 :lol1:
i have sky plus but i hardly use it… its good to know if i really need to i can record a film/Programm. however, as it is "sky+" it actually records and stores the film/program for you to watch at anytime anyway, without the need for a tape or DVD. So kinda beats the purpose… 😀 -
Rob,
I just wanted to be able to long term archive stuff & have the ease of the sky+ recording but being able to record things to DVD to watch upstairs or on a portable DVD player
I now have the ability to record three programmes at once….I’m just waiting for that blue moon when there three programmes on at the same time worth recording 😀
-
yeh i was wundering what to do with it too….sky +..not really used it yet, and i never thought you could record to dvd either….you learn a new thing everyday :lol1: :lol1:

Do not know about recording to DVD but see you want to watch upstairs. We have Sky + downstairs and coax lead running from output 2 on sky box to upstairs tv, if you buy a magic eye from maplins or cpc you can control the sky box from uptairs and watch the program no need to record or mess about. This is one of the best features of sky.
Regards
Russell.
