skins!!
Posted by Nicola McIntosh on November 30, 2004 at 9:02 pmhi 😛
has anyone screenprinted on a drum skin before? if so what ink did you use? had an inquiry this evening, but i was concerned about the ink, if it would crack or flake away when the drum is tightened!! 😀 any ideas?

I have no knowledge about this whatsoever but have you though about contacting your local music shop?
“groups” change the names on the front of the base drum frequently so I imagine it must be some sort of removable lettering that it is used.
Not much help I know but it’s a start 😀 -
hi andy thanks for reply, but it’s for a pipe band, you know the guy who bashes a huge drum… don’t know what it’s called 😮
i don’t want to use vynil lettering as it will come off, even if it was done in reverse 😛thanks anyway

Hi nik,
logically speaking to apply graphics to skins you could always employ your local tatto artist 😀 -
ha-ha-ha 😛 but what if your thick skinned? 😀 😉

this is a guess… but i think it would work.
banners and truck curtains etc take a pounding dont they? 😉
seriously though, i think it may work… -
if the skin is textured then has to be inked dont know what ink though else cast vinyl has been ok in the past but only lettering big bits of vinyl change the tone of the skin

thanks guys for all your replies!! 😛
the customer came in today with is big drum 😀 and it’s not the creamy canvasy one i thought it would be…new technology now it’s clear!! 😮
anyway the guy said i cannot use vinyl as it does something to the tuning and makes it really dense, so i will get ed to try various vinyl ink and see what one will really bite into the pastic!! 😛 then i will paint in reverse onto
the plastic drum!! 😀amazing the new things you learn everyday!! 😛
