thats a new one on me mate.. 😕
i have heard of removing mag panels after a couple of weeks and the sun has bleached a shadow around the vans panel. but not imprinting itself.
at the end of the day this is not your problem. (i know you have to try and give the customer an answer) but at the edn of the day its gotta be the paintwork.. surely!

    sounds bad Chris!

I have seen an area of ‘damaged’ paint under magnetic panels before but not sinking into it. I always stress to the customer to remove them once aweek to clean the vehicle and make sure it is dry before replacing them.

We had some that would not stick to the vehicle once, and every possible angle was checked (Vehicle supplier, paint make up environment etc) nothing was found that would prevent the panel sticking, and we ended up selling the customer printed vinyl at a reduced cost.

    Not much help sorry

    Cheers

    Dave

I would blame the person who did the paint job.
Obviously it had not cured enough.
And if after 5 weeks it had not cured, it must have been improperly mixed and/or applied by the body man. (panel banger, whatever ya call em over there) But in no way does this sound like it’s your problem.
I have seen cases where the paint came off with the magnetic, usually on a DIY Krylon job. I always advise my clients to remove and wipe down the vehicle & the backs of the mags once a week or so. And I usually do ask if the vehicle has been repainted or has a lot of Bondo in the doors.
    Good Luck!
