    hi guys

i have just bought 2 roland engravers and i am getting my head around Dr. Engrave starting to get some reasonable result but I only have one single stroke font loaded which is nothing like arial which i need, so i am having to engrave using fill which takes ages!

i have a big engraving job in that requires Arial does anyone have a single stroke font for Arial or do you know where on the net i can purchase it (already bought and downloaded one but it was totally wrong)

    So help!!!!

    Simon

All of the single line fonts I have are VEF’s and work with Engravelab. As a last resort I can find something close and convert to an ai file for you….

Also interested in finding more single line fonts too. Was about to start converting some, but just don’t have enough time 😮

The fonts are software specific and only work within the sign/engraving specific software from CadLink

Im not the graham from Semaphore, but rather the one from the MOD :lol1:

    Hi Simon

I would strongly recommend getting better software. Dr Engrave is great to get you started, but you will soon be frustrated by it. Most mainstream programs support Roland engravers fully and I would recommend you take a look at http://www.vectric.com and http://www.cadlink.com. You will make more money out of your engravers with better software.

If you really want to stick with Dr Engrave, you can buy a good set of True Type engraving fonts from http://www.mr-clipart.com/eu/produkt-si … e_font.php – the fonts are very good. As with all TTFs they are not really single line, but they do look like it and engrave well – the cutter just goes over twice.

However, if you are still using Dr Engrave in a year’s time, I may have to shoot you. 🙂

    HI Simon,

does your software have the ability to import ai or eps files?

    Do you have Corel Draw?

If the answer to both is ‘yes’ then the solution is easy:

Draw up your text in Corel, and size it accordingly.
Then convert or export to a bitmap.
Import the bitmap, and trace it, but instead of doing a trace of outlines, do a trace by centreline.

That will give you a single-line vector of each letter, as well as serifs etc.

You can export that as an illy file, and import that to your engraving software.

(Hope that helps- it took me a long time to work it out as a feasible option!)

If I had more hands Id give you more thumbs up for that. So simple and may help me do some more smaller text as Im currently confined to 30 or so within Engravelab………………

    Thanks

it IS simple, Graeme, that’s what’s so amazing!

The other funny thing is that when I first got Corel Draw back in the days of version 7, I could not figure out at all why anyone would ever want a ‘trace by centre line’ option, because back then, trace was used to take a scan or photo of a logo and to create outlines which could be cut on a plotter…centrelines were many miles away from my thought processes!

(as for the thumbs-up, well, that’s OK, you’d better hang on to your daughter instead, or she might fall off your shoulders! 😀 )

(edited to correct the spelling of Graham/Graeme which I got wrong!)
P.S. you look like you have about as much grey hair as me, but my daughters are all too big to fit on my shoulders these days- at least not without a complimentary trip to the chiropractor afterwards!)

just thought i’d try that – until after quite a bit of hunting did a search for the command on google and found

"Did Corel bring back the centerline trace capability in CorelDraw X4? I just don’t understand why Corel did away with that feature in X3"

    😕

Yes centre line tracing is back with X4 it also has a folder marked as Engraver. I’ve not loaded any of these but these maybe either single stroke or filled fonts.
