There’s a program on the Discovery channel called "Planes that never flew".

It’s all about innovative aircraft designs that never made it beyond the drawing board.

It occurred to me that most signmakers must have a portfolio of designs for signs that never made it into production for one reason and another. So I thought it might be interesting to see some of your favourite sign designs that never got made.

I’ll start with one I did for the fire brigade a few years ago. The innovative part of this design was the Cat that was awaiting rescue. For some reason this suggestion was turned down – but a revised version (minus the cat) did make it into production

Didn’t realize till I looked through my files how much work I have done for no reward.

    Nothing very interesting.

The fruit on was an old pal that I put a bit of effort in for but for whatever reason (probably petty politics) someone Else’s ‘inferior’ design was chosen.

Second one I told a guy I would get back to him with a new look/logo over the weekend and I only managed a first draft after two weeks so he never even got to see where I was going with it. cant complain.

We had a provisional order for 1,000 of these 8×2 banners from a reverend A Smith. unfortunately the publisher released it on the same week as JK Rowlings Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 🙄
