Signs Express Lapping up the Countryside for Charity

For the third year in a row, the UK’s leading signs and graphics company, Signs Express, which is headquartered in Norwich, are supporting the Lap of Anglia – a gruelling 400-mile cycle ride in 4 days to raise much needed funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

Craig Brown, Managing Director of the Signs Express franchise, took part in 2015 and 2016 and this year, has volunteered to drive one of the Signs Express liveried support vehicles. Craig had this to say, “This event is excellent every year, well organised and ran, but the thing that makes it really stand out as an extraordinary charity event is the determination and dedication all of the cyclists show! It’s a gruelling task and one they all approach with a smile.”

The event, which has been running for the past four years, has raised more than an impressive £60,000 for the EAAA since its establishment. This year, the Lap will begin at 8am on 16th August in Kings Lynn and will be returning there on the evening of 19th August after an epic 400-mile trip.

Damien Cross, organiser of the Lap event stated, "I’m delighted to have seen the Lap of Anglia grow since 2013, giving more and more generous cyclists a chance to work hard and raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance. That continued growth is thanks in no small part to generous sponsors, suppliers and partners like Signs Express, and especially Craig Brown himself who has suffered his fair share of hours on the saddle over the years!"

I’ll be totally honest and say driving the support van, loading and unloading 50 sets of luggage, and sorting food, drinks and snacks every day for the riders, then trying to get ahead of them to reach the staged meeting points each day was more challenging than I expected.

Great experience though and a terrific bunch of people raising money for a good cause that arguably should be funded by the public purse (but we won’t go there).

Hopefully the ride is well on the way to pushing past the £25K mark this year (final numbers totted up in November).

Next year I’ll be back on the bike and let some other lucky person have a stint behind the wheel of the support van.

I’ll pop up a few picture from the ride as well…

There sure is more to support crew than meets the eye, I’ve a friend who competed in the Mersey 24hr race, and I did bit of support crew. It’s quite good fun though. Although like you I prefer riding, although perhaps not 400miles, or 24hrs. 😆

    Well done!
