I am really not in any position to say that! Sorry.

When i say i can’t get it to run the Gerber i mean just that! The drivers appear to be in place in the setup menu’s but when i try it cocks everything up and says it has a ‘communication problem with the device’.
This may be down to my general in competance/lack of knowledge regarding setups!!!
Give the distributor a call for a definite answer on the VersaCamm query
(and then get it in writing)

    Richie,

Before you shell out on software see the thread on SignGo. It’s a real eyeopener. I have 2 copies of Signlab e6 but I wish SignGo had been about when I started out, it looks a feature packed bargain to me and Wilcom are behind it and they are a proper company in my experience.

I see you are or have a Versacamm, I have one on order and am hoping Signlab will support it. I briefly owned a Nautilus till a fortnight ago (sent it back, could’nt get on with it) anyhow I asked CADlink (SIgnlab) if they were going to support it and told me not until release 7 (more money). I would not mind betting this will be the case with the Versacamm. Anyhow Signlab’s Prism Print rip in my opinion is not at all good and from reports I have read Versacamm comes with it’s own extremelly good rip, not like the Nautilus’s one which is an absolute disaster.

    Hi 😕

Allan , you are right the Versa Camm comes with a good RIP, that is why i was considering Signlab e6 Pro instead of the colour package , as the rip comes with the machine…..

Still i am pushing towards Flexi but i will give the sign package you advised a look.

Would it have al the functions of the other two ????

As i have two computers, both good quality , 40 gig and 30 gig, any advice on upgrades or requirements to handle the software and machine, it will be also running a seperate plotter….

(:) It seems the people selling the software are lacking with info (:)

    Cheers

Why not just run Corel 9/10/11 , it works just fine on the Soljet which uses the same RIP etc as the Versacam – there is no real point spending money on dedicated “signmaking” software for this machine , so long as what you got can export to EPS you will be ok. You could also use PS7 , AI9/10 etc
Use the RIP supplied , it’s damn good , its the WASATCH rip.
I have never needed anything but Corel 11 and get excellent results.
As to puters , buy as box with a fast processor , this determines RIP speed , graphics card , ram and HD space are less relevant (albeit RAM is)
EPS and RIP files can often approach a few Gigs , so a 100 gig HD comes in handy, we use a dedicated puter to rip to the printer.

    hi 😉

Thanks Rodney for the info, i will be getting that upgrade to 100gig at least and speed to match , as i do not have a really good signmaking software package, that is the reason for the purchase,

So the soljet has really impressed you, that is the father of the versa camm , ?

    Cheers

In reality you will be getting most of your files from customers , the thing is that you dont need “signmaking” software , you need software for printing , like Photoshop etc – the fearures in Signlab/flexi/whatever will help a litte , but in general will be a waste of time. The vinyl cutting is sort of an “extra” and mostly you will be making Die lines for decals which is pretty easy with Corel or the like rather than using the machine as a vinyl cutter.
You will want to use the supplied RIP , it’s VERY potent and you have control over just about everything.
The Soljet is a wonderful machine as is the Versacam , the differences are speed , 6 colour s vs 4, size and the fact the soljet can print on rigid material up to 1mm thick.
I would really hang on before plonking down wads of cash for software which you might not need.

I agree with Rodney, Corell draw 11 is very good for handling cut paths and images for the VC. You dont really need anything else except photoshop perhaps if you want to mess with images before printing.

Spot on again Rodney, I have been using a Cammjet CJ-70 and nearly always print on it from Corel 11, via a Colorbus hardware/software rip. If on occassions I want to print & cut cut from Corel I can do it through the Roland windows driver no problem, and I know the later Roland rips are miles better than their old window driver.

I do use SignLab but I can’t get on with the rip on the lastest version and seldom use it

Coreldraw 11 in my opinion is worth every penny. I have incidetly put a down payment on a Versacamm after reading your glowing reports so i hope it lives up to your praise.
