    Hello to you all.
Sorry if these questions are a little simple, but would really appreciate your help.

My Roland plotter has died, I dont carry out a lot of cutting, we are a race team and use it for car graphics.
we are using Signlab 5, yes i realise this is getting on a bit now!

We have replaced our machine with a Graphtec FC7000 Mk2, not sure if it is a good machine, but was recommended to us via a local dealer.

    I have a few questions if i may;

Is it posible to continue using Signlab 5? i am unable to find a driver for our plotter on the list?

The Graphtec plotter came with a USB lead, if i manage to get a driver, is it ok to use this USB or do I need a parallel lead and can you recommend where i can get one from ( dealer has not been too helpful)

If the Signlab is not an option to replace, rather expensive, can you recommend another option for us?

Sorry for the daft questions, we are not too hot on the techy stuff.

    Many thanks in advance

    Regards John

Signlab 5.0 will not support USB. You will have to use the Parralell cable. You will most likely be able to use one on the Graphtec drivers you already have.

    Or update your Signlab.

fc7000 mk2 has serial rs232 or usb no parallel if that’s how you spell it.

welcome anyway but if the dealer recommended it, get them to make it work.

ps its a fantastic plotter but take years to learn the menus

You can use a serial cable as there is no USB support in Signlab 5.
Your Roland probably came with one, maybe not.
Its a plain jane "Null Modem Cable."

You can use any graphtec cutter driver to cut to the FC7000.
Note, we supply HPGL and GPGL drivers.
If you turn the cutter on, you will briefly see either an H or a G on the LCD.
H is HPGL, G is GPGL.

With Signlab 5 , you will not be able to use all the fancy Registration mark features that are found in Signlab 7 and 8

But you can still Contour cut via Signlab 5s 2/3 point jogging.

Graphtec do their own parallel cables with some of the pins missing so to run it this way you would need one of their cables. More up to date version of Signlab will have the ability to run usb devices.

You are as well updating your software, but as a dealer you would expect me to say that. But it is not just for the new drivers, it will also update your ability to handle PDF files along with other import filters. And generally be more compatible with modern 32 bit and 64 bit PC’s

I do not mind giving free help and support if you need it.
