• SignGo Price Increase

Posted by Lorraine Buchan on December 23, 2003 at 11:39 pm

For anyone who is trying this software out or thinking about purchasing, be warned there will be a price increase from the 1st Feb 2004 but……

It’s still great value for money even with a price increase

Luckily it is only a marginal price increase of $50, approx £35 but even with the price increase, its alot cheaper than the big brothers of the industry, namely Signlab.

SignGo Lite Old price $89 New Price $139
SignGo Old price $349 New Price $399

Definately helpful to people starting out with limited budgets.

I think SignGo can Rob, Why not download the trial over the holidays and see what you think!

Could be a good little feature!

Excellent idea Lorraine, Signlab vs SignGo!

Feature for feature, SignGo appears to match up, even down to its dubiously named FotoCut feature, which I believe is a rarely used feature in Signlab.

Its a good one for a demo/feature as the software is one of the main costs (and if its Signlab, the main cost) to sign trade startups. With plotter prices being so low, its amazing how Cadlink can still charge £1.5+ for a Signlab setup.

i’ve had a look at the Signgo website (thanks dewi!) but can’t see that it does any more than my existing Corel Draw package? So for me it’s better the devil you know!

What I would like to find, and I’ve always assumed this was part of a Signwriting set up, is a Font or set of Fonts with the swishing tails and scrolled capitals?? Any ideas?

could be an idea lorraine 😉 to be done right though i think it would only be fair if maybe 3 signlab users did this.. 🙄

Martin, if you use CorelDRAW, one of the options when you are setting it up is to install extra fonts. Unfortunately there are 1500 of them and if you install over 500 fonts at any one time, your computer will struggle. I tried it, my computer crawled and limped for a week! 😉 Luckily, all the fonts are catergorised. If you can’t find what you’re after in CorelDRAW, I do have several font CDs, but these are not catergorised, so it would mean trawling through them one by one. Mail me on the address below if you’d like me to post you a font CD or 2.

Martin – try a font called “commercial script” – that’s probably the sort of thing you’re looking for 😀

Martin I’m not quite sure what you mean here, is it a scripted font you are looking for ?
If it is as Phil has suggested Commercial script is one, there are obviously a lot of others, Script MT, Brush Script, Shear Ellegance, Shear Beauty, Allurscript to name but a few.
The only thing to watch with scripts in the software I use though is that the letters are not joined up, you have to alter the kerning to bring the letters closer together and then weld them together.

    To all,,

I have scripted fonts and CD’s with plenty of variety on them. I’ll try my best to explain what I mean…..

Say for example you had the word Signs and the S’s joined together underneath to form a Caligraphic marvel! Does that make sense?

I know how to draw stuff and weld etc., but these look likethey are part of a ready made set?/

I’ll have a search for the fonts mentioned to see if they are the ones.

    Thanks

I’m not sure there is a specific font that would suffice Martin. Although there are font sets that look similar to the main body of the text, I think the fancy swirls and twirls are done by converting the letter to curves and adding them in by hand. I’d be very interested if anyone does know exactly how this is done, it is a very effective techinique and if it is infact a font set, love to know where to get it 😀 😀

I don’t think you can get fonts with swirls (flourishes) like this as these are bespoke

Remember Gray is a traditional signwriter so these shapes and flourishes come second nature to him and others

However anyone can do it if they have the eye

As Dewi says: Change the font into a graphic and then you can click onto the graphic to reveal the nodes and you can do all sorts of wild things besides flourishes. Its actually great fun.

Sometimes if the client can’t provide me with the font and its just a few letters I’ll regenerate the letters by turning the closest match of letters I can find in my library akin to the clients and turn them all into graphics and play around with the nodes

    Great fun

    John
