As many will have noticed signextra now has the option for us all to reply to the news topic posts. We restricted this section to “read only” basically because i wanted it to be viewed as an online sign magazine that never ends… basically, Old news just goes to page two and so on. Never gets deleted. Since its launch, i wasn’t happy with a few things. Mainly how new news would be pushed and few glitches in the background “code wise” this has now been sorted so things can now progress…
anyway, some folk have contacted me saying it would be good to be able to reply to these posts & i guess i agree with all their veiws… so what i am doing just now is to ask for more views, should the reply option be here to stay? Is there anything you would like to see in this section that isnt, etc. ide love to hear thoughts… good or bad?

thank you in advance for any replies/help/suggestions 😀

I think the reply should be permitted. No real reason other than it is always nice to get feed back on an article.

My only other thought is to perhaps do the article as a pdf, with a link. Just a thought. I can imagine all the arguments for and against, but I just think it gives a more ‘newsy’ feel, if that makes sense.

My original newsletters were just like yours now, but since changing over the pdf, the comments back about the professionalism is quite remarkable.

As I say, just a thought, probably a bad one, but a thought none-the-less 😕

…. and keep up the good work Rob,

well my previous suggestions about site access remain my belief on that sections access and so forth… but I think you should not be able to post replies in that section, it should remain locked. If someone approached you to have a ‘paid’ advert, why would you want a page full of competitors alternatives under your paid advert or even ‘this product is shyte, dont buy it’. Would be unfair on the advertiser in SignXtra.

i think so long as the replys are related to the topic they should go, a bit like a user review for example,

How do the contributors thus far feel about it being a reply section Rob
    Any feedback from them?

I think there has been some good points made.

Shane, PDF’s etc will now be added when available. Infact, i have one to add tomorrow with a news topic. I was initially wary of giving downloads based on the same topic posted. As i prefer people having to come back to the site to read up on things. And if really need be they could print it off. That said, if asked, i “will” load pdf’s for download. In fact… i have some suppliers that “may” have some short video footage loaded with their news. So the possibilities are endless…

Dave, this is one of the main reasons i had it locked in the first place mate.
Even the supplier could abuse this if they keep bumping their own topic…. there’s probably many ways to go about this!
I am more concern on what you mentioned. Competition coming in to down a product, simply because they can, but under an alias… has happened in the past… At the end of the day the supplier WILL have the option when submitting their editorial to have his news locked “or” open. So the choice is theirs…

John, i never asked mate… then again, those submitting are pretty aware how the site works. So if questions do arise on a news topic, it would be easy to just start one a fresh.
Those submitting them in future though, will be asked.

thanks for the feedback so far guys, much appreciated… look forward to anymore suggestions or complaints about this section.

    That seems a useful idea.

How about a forum for discussing suppliers and their service?

This could serve to encourage good service and give sensible feedback to suppliers as well as buyers. Of course there is the problem of the unsubstantiated slag-offs!
