  • Signapp – The UK’s first smart phone Sign Application

Posted by .News on July 20, 2011 at 12:33 am

The UK’s first smart phone application for the Sign Industry will soon be launched by uksignboards.com to add to its growing list of online sign maker tools and resources.

Like UKSB, Signapp is an independent resource and will host a combination of information, videos, news, various live feeds, interaction with uksignboards.com. As well as several unique sign programs which will prove valuable to the day to day sign maker.
Signapp will be available across most leading brands of smart phone, such as iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Windows HTC.

Rob Lambie explains, Mobile devices are quickly becoming cluttered by useless gimmick like applications which loss their appeal soon after installation. With Signapp, what we have tried to do is combine many "useful tools" in one application. I believe there will be something for everyone within the sign industry.

Signapp will be launched soon and followed by 3 updates. This will allow us to monitor the installs, track what is and isn’t popular.
Whilst at the same time, update existing programs as well as adding new ones. What many will be glad to hear is that Signapp is 100% FREE to download and install.

more information on the apps features and how to get hold of your free download will follow…

Great Rob. Will it be universal for iPad as iPhone only apps can look poor running on iPad. Makes me think how far technology has progressed in past four years

I tried an app called SignGuru a month or so ago (search on the market for it).
It was produced by a large American sign company.
Perported to be an essential app for signmakers it was really a bit basic and lacking in useful content over and above what an established sign maker would already know.

If we’re talking apps, I just installed myPantone on Android.
The whole set of swatches including Designer and Bridge on my phone!
Easy to use lifelike swatches or lists make for quick choices on site and fast checking with customer images.

Great progress, given that everyone spends more time on site or away from the office and need answers quickly, very useful tool and way more than just an amusement.

I had the sign guru one too, deleted it after a couple of weeks, wasn’t overly impressed – and it doesn’t take much to impress me!

i’m interested to know how you put your pantones onto your phone, i’ve an iPhone4 and can see great use in that!

Well I think it’s a load of rubbish, I’m still living in the dark ages lol. To me a phone is something that rings when someone want’s to talk to you. I still hate having to text people never mind having lots of different apps to use :lol1:

Away back to my cave now :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

    Steam driven Peter :lol1:

Haven’t got round to installing a proper electric supply yet.

it’s strange really because I don’t have a problem with new technology in general, just always seem to have had a problem with phones. I was carrying a brick around for years and even the phone I have now is old being a treo 650. Didn’t get it until fairly recently so never been up to date phone wise.

Thanks for the replies everyone, glad to hear it is of interest to you.
judging by the amount of veiws on this topic today alone, (around 900 veiws) is a good sign in itself… 😛

I am purposely not giving much away on what the app does. download it and give it a whirl is all i can say. :lol1:
seriously though, i do beleive it will be a useful tool to have for everyone.
if for nothing else, you will be able to keep upto the minute with activity on UKSB. but of course theres much more than just that…

Those screen shots in the news post above are actual shots of the app in operation, so as you can se, things are pretty much done.
As soon as I am ready to launch it in its first release version, everyone will find out quickly as It will be bulk emailed to our 14,000 mailing list, as well as via the toolbar which has over 2500 users in the uk alone. it will also be featured on UKSB homepage too, so getting hold of it will be easy enough.

as far as i know, the ipad woks "exactly" same as as iPhone Neil. by that i mean the "signapp"

to be honest, the first release will all be about seeing what "Each" mobile device provider will be about…

    for me… its one of those things… i need to download, see, feel, use and understand how it works "for me" before i can start deciding what to chop and change to suit everyone. that’s why i have stated this will come in a series of downloads;;

at the end of the day, I/we will get there… and i have no doubt in that!. 😉

wish it was guys, the app has been complete for some time now and set for its initial launch. but we keep having to make minor tweaks here and there to make sure it complies with Apples app regulations which are very strict and most other platforms follow their lead. but im assured it will go live very soon…
    fingers crossed!

ive been side tracked the past few weeks with something else UKSB is working on right now and will be making an announcement on that before the end of the week. all going well, this will be included within one of the Apps features.
doesnt seem to be enough hours in the day, but i am getting there. 😉 :lol1:

wont be long now darling… just round the corner and along the road a bit…

    😮 oh, sorry… :lol1:

The app is now LIVE but for testing purposes only.
i have it on my daughters iPhone & iPad and works well, but has two small alterations needing addressed.

it will then be submitted to Apple for approval, then go live.
It will be launched initially for iPhones, iPads, Windows Phones & Android.
however, the windows phones will have "one tool" within the app "missing".
apparently "one" of Signapps tools aren’t compatible with Windows phones, but are Android and Apple.

exact date is out my hands I’m afraid… the sooner the better as far as i am concerned. should have went live ages ago. 🙄

Anyway i have an iphone4 and ipad so can test on both if you like Rob
You may be aware of it but there is an app testflight which allows testers to log in and for you to pass on a test version of the app. Ive used in the past as a tester, thought id mention it

Well I’ve been Beta testing the app for a short while now and I can honestly say it’s even better then I was expecting. Without a doubt this will be a very useful piece of kit for all signmakers. Being able to carry an app like this around with you as you go about your daily business will have unexpected benefits for the user. I don’t want to go into any details just now as I don’t want to spoil the surprises, but I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Well done Rob – keep up the good work

I’m looking forward to when this is finally released. 😀

Meanwhile I have had my own flash of inspiration for developing my own app..

Basically my app will be designed to treat people suffering with clinical depression. You download it onto your phone, then, if you’re feeling a bit low, you launch the app and it proffers pearls of wisdom and advice such as:-

"There’s always someone worse off then you",
    "Pull yourself together",
    "stop your whining",
    "F.F.S get a grip"
    etc. etc …

useful tips and advice that’s bound to cheer someone up.

    Whatcha think guys 😕

Sorry mate, already have half a dozen users, probably more actually. to be honest testing is more or less done, the last fix should iron out the glitch. i could have it out on Android and Windows 7 device in the next couple of days. But Apple is a different kettle of fish, Ide rather they pass its standards testing procedure then launch, that way it goes live "at the same time" on all of the following devices iPad, Iphone, ITouch, Android and Windows 7 platforms. so the quicker i get my finger out, the better! Only so many hours in the day though. 🙄
