• Sign Update..

    …for the 1st time since 1996 we didn’t have an advert in Sign Update the past issue. This was not through our own choice, apparently somebody phone up Roger at Sign Update & very kindly cancelled our advert for us 😮

    Has anybody had any similar strange occurrences in business?

    If any of our competition out there is reading this & did it, then you are very sad (:) (:)

    well we did have the sign company up the road from us tell one of our customers that was trying to find our premises that we had went bust about 3 months ago. of course they were only too happy to do the 6 vans our customer wanted done.
    he bought the vans localy and thought he would pop in and see us and get it all sorted same day..
    he bumped into me in a B&Q a few months later and said how sorry he was we went bust! 😮 😮 😮 after telling us exactly what happend he wasnt surprised. he added how poor a job they made and how the vans vinyl is beginning to dog ear!!!
    well from what i have heard, that same sign company has, in the last few months. went the same way they wanted others to beleive ours had 😉

    brian, it maybe was the same person that called handover in london to cancel my signcraft subscription. 👿

    Sucks to hear that Rob. It`s like a punch in the stomach.

    Makes you wonder how much business you loose in a year due to “out of sight, out of mind” customers.

    I`ve lost count of the amount of customers we`ve lost, regained, lost, regained etc over the last 20 years. Some of the lines we`ve heard include;

    “Ah didn`t realise you were still doing that”
    “Oh!…that was you that done it last time, i forgot all about that”
    ” Ack the leasing company/main dealer used their own people and included it as part of the finance package”

    This is more for all our services, not just the sign side, i get the impression that if you aren`t constantly in their faces, they tend to disappear, even if they got a great deal the last time. Makes you wonder if employing a full time customer liason/Sales person is worth it.

    £18k for a decent salesperson is a big hole in profits though and it kinda puts me off.

    Hope this muppet story-teller gets what coming to him for that move.

    You could make a point of calling previous customers once every say 3 -6 months. Do it on a rota basis starting with the oldest first and perhaps ring 5 a day. Simply to see if everything is still OK.
    That way you stay fresh in their minds and they will buy more often 😀 😀
