Have a large tray (15m) to fix and wondered if there was an easier way than 2 strips of angle. Done a tray on tray before but thought this might work too.

Costs more but saves time putting the bottom angle on and lining up.

    Hope the drawing makes sense!

I’ve done a very similar thing but made a complete frame to fit inside the tray, get on site not measuring just fix frame and pop tray on, this save so much time and the centre join of joins if using more panels fit perfectly.

I’d just get a welder to make an angled frame up to your specification and job done, much cheaper then another tray especially if do this multiple times as you can buy lengths and cut them down to size

I’m sure I’ve seen a supplier that offers an alloy frame for you to attach the tray sections to.
It was in one of the supplements that comewitheither sign link or update mags

Haha, I knew it was a good idea. Thinking about it, you can buy those little welder’s and do it yourself https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00J3X … rds=welder

Lol but I don’t think I would make a steel frame, but heavy but could work, Ali welding is an art in its self

Didn’t think of that but then it was a quick idea, back to the original idea then a pay someone lol.

Two lengths of angle, some vertical flat aluminium for the spacing, drill and rivet?

It’s only to hold it’s shape/spacing until the top/bottom rails are secured to whatever you’re fixing it to?

There’s a tutorial on here of Rob making a sign frame using similar method.

David has the best idea. We would screw the angles into the back of the tray, then pop rivet flats between them, that gives an exact spacing when you take the rails back out

    I like that !

I’ve done similar but using the angle that’s supplied with the trays, simply rivet strips of composite to pre-space the angle, for larger trays it’s two frames than locl together on site, then it’s just one level to find, screw to the wall and hang the tray as normal..

…Ill try describe what I do… first lay the tray on its face and put inside the two L angles where you need them. measure the distance between the two angles on the inside. Cut some baton or palette plank to this length., Id do one for every 3 or 4ft depending on size of tray of course…..remove the angle from tray and screw the wood top and bottom to the L angle again on the inside, maintaining the correct distance between the angle. This fixes the correct spacing between the top and bottom rails which you can take with you on site, fit to the wall first then slip the tray over the top, fixing that to the rails.
If you have old pallets laying around…it costs nothing extra and saves a tonne to time on site.
Cant remember where I got this idea from…it was probably on the boards somewhere…

This is how i do it, I thought this was the standard way on how to fit them? I like the idea of the frame though as once you’ve got it level you’re pretty much done

cheers all, going to try the wooden batten idea and pre build prior to site

. When you think of the easy tricks of the trade you think everyone would know… resources such as UKsignboards hold such a wealth of knowledge…
One trick I learnt from a window cleaner was how to remove glue from windows. Spray the glue with water (just plain old water) and remove using a safety razor…no sticky snotty stuff and saves an absolute age.

Cheryl, being an ex window cleaner myself, I can tell you its much easier putting a small amount of detergent in the water – also never ever run the blade back and forth across the glass, bits of dirt get trapped under the blade on the backstroke and you’ll scratch the glass

use one of these with stainless steel blades much better and made for the job
Agree with Ewan, one direction only and that’s forward.
