Probably the wrong place to post this so forgive me, but is the Sign Show at the NEC in april worth going to and what are the benefits? My printer engineer reckons you can pick up some bargains from the big boys and if so does being a UKSB member bring any other discounts at the show.
As Im down at sunny Margate itll be a trek to get to hence the mundane questions – sry in advance for my posting in the wrong place :lol1:

The major benefit is that you get to meet all of us.

Seriously, I wouldn’t make a major purchase decision on the strength of a hurried, rushed and crowded demo at the NEC. Fair enough, have a quick glance around to see what’s available, but just use it to make a short list of stuff you are interested in, so that you can go to the dealers later for a more in-depth investigation of their products.

The best use of SignUK to me is to meet and spend time with my colleagues and friends. Exchange ideas and horror stories, have a "few" drinks in the evening after a good meal, and fall into bed in the early hours.

For me, SignUK is a social event with a sign show attached. And well worth attending. 😀

    I’d agree with John.

I flew over for the NEC last year (strictly for the meet and greet of course), but I saw some things at the show that took my fancy, and if I had been a local I would have followed up on a few things at a later time.

I find the shows here a great place to see what direction the market is doing, check out the new technology, collect some ideas, and go home and mull over them.

Not sure about the UK, but you get the best deals on the last day, so they an deliver the machine from the show to your place without having to repack and unpack it again.

Make sure you sign up for the restaurant meal with the crew from UKSB’s though, they are a great bunch who leave their ego’s at home.

Thanks for the heads up fellas, the missus and I WILL be attending as we are quite partial to the "social" drink every now and then….. :). If UKSB have a particular day on which they attend could someone let us know so as to be fashionably ……… early :lol1:

Usually the middle day – Wednesday.

There’ll be a post up sometime with hotel and evening entertainment suggestions. If Rob does it, it’ll be later. If Peter Normington, then sooner.

    Wot? (spin)

Shane, I have no idea what you’re talking about. 😀 *drink*

You booked your flight yet? 😛

    Andy,
we all have a good time, and we have been getting together for quite a few years.
I will point out though, it is an organised event in the evening, and first choice goes to uksg members. and that includes hotel bookings, as Rob normally does a group booking at good rates.
The details only get posted in the uksg member area.
We all welcome anyone from the boards, at the show, and at least one bar is taken over by members, but if you are interested in the full monty, then consider the uksg membership,

I dont want to sound elitist, but I dont want you to be disappointed
if you miss the opportunity for a great night out,

    Peter
