    Quote from there website

    quote :

Work is now well under way to completing the guide, but due to the shear volume of information that is going into the guide, our original publish date has been put back, like ourselves we are sure you want the guides information to be of the highest quality, to achieve this we need a little more time to get it all right, but be assured it will be out soon!

Been like that for a couple of months now. (sleep)

    hi guys

just an update on how the guide is going, in response to you postings. i can confirm that if all goes to plan the guide will be published 1st may 2007 at sign UK (i have spent the best part of a hour on the phone to the organisers of the show this afternoon)

yes this is latter than i had planned, but it has also taken ALOT longer to put together than i had hoped, but hopefully the delay will make the guide all the better (hey if it was a easy project the trade would have had one long ago!) thank you for all who have registered for guides and shown a interest, look forward to seeing you all at the show where you can collect your FREE guide.

i will now go and update our web site! (you heard it first on the sign boards!) keep a eye on the site for updates over the coming weeks

Would a sign pricing guide work 100% across the uk/scotland/wales, what i mean is supply and demand in different areas is going to be very different from say what is charged in London to what is charged in a small town in say scotland/wales etc, i keep a eye on the sign guys around me so i know what i can charge, atm cut vinyl im doing for £30-35 mtr at 610 and £55-60 mtr for digi print and there doesnt seem to be any problems selling it. If you look across the lenght of the uk im sure these prices will differ drasticly.

i am not sure… i mean digital printing is so varied now and by 1st may 2007 we will have a new type of digital printer to consider as technology moves on and gets cheaper.

Paul, I would suggest strongly that you just lay it up in a basic format, no flashy graphics and get it run as a stapled A5 catalogue, this is cheap to run off most printers and to compile and doesn’t require a great many sponsors for it. If you wish to keep it alive then a quarterly version would be fairly quick to produce after you made the master copy.

Paul, you have obviously spent a lot of time on the guide, is it a labour of love? or do you hope to gain a profit from it? (nothing wrong with that)
I have seen many guides over the years, but none seem to give a true price indication. How have you collated the information? Did you get a quote from signmakers for a specific project? and if so how do you account for all the infinate variables?

    Just curious,

    Peter

    hi all

let me try and answer some of you questions,

first let me say it is a GUIDE, it can not be every thing for every one, and there is nothing better than knowing your own costs and good market research, but that said do we all really have the time to do this properly, if your like me and many of my contacts the answer is no not really.

as for prices differing from area to area, my research says there is not as bigger differences as people like to think there are! that said the guide has got a map of the country in it with % on it, this showing say, London +10% and may be Stoke -15% (before anyone gets upset they are made up %’s!) so hopefully that will help with prices from different areas.
also you will soon learn that your prices are say 10% above or 5% below the guide and can still use the guide to give you a quick market value price for any given sign/job

the prices have been worked out by surveying sign makers up and down the country (still need more to do the survey, volunteers?) the survey gives examples of all the every day jobs we all do and a spec IE 5mm foamex, 5-7year vinyl etc, etc, the prices are then worked in to a matrix table for jobs of different sizes.

what i hope is you all have an input into the guide and we can make it something most of us can make use of, and feel it based in real world!

peter – yes it is a labour of love at present, but that said i do hope to gain a profit from selling advertising space in it.
