my parents are returning from a month in kenya, tomorro, kids wanted to do a ‘here we are’ sign with a difference for when waiting at the arrivals lounge,

kids designed the idea, i just did the arty bit and cut it, kids weeded it and helped apply it before cutting the correx to a shape !

i also seem to have gained a new window graphic thanks to the mischievous Adrian !

lol, it keeps em outa trouble, except the little lass who goes thru the bin and finds anything with a sticky bit on it and attaches it to any available surface, i find bits all over the garden furniture, the house, workshop….everywhere !

i’m working on that shane !

the oldest often earns a few bob for weeding the bigger ‘runs’ of stickers, he seems to have more patience then me when it comes to weeding small stuff, he enjoys getting involved though and is begining to work on bigger things with me,

the younger lad tries pretty hard, he weeded alot of the sign they made, just needs to be more patient ! (chip off the ol block in that dept !)

the lass ?? well…. she just sticks anything to anything it won’t fall off of !

i think it’s good to involve the kids, nice that they feel they’ve earned their pocket money, and value it a little more due to the effort to earn it, they don’t often come begging for money for a certain thing they want, usually it “dad, can i earn some money” now ! is that good or bad ? !!!

My kids are all a bit older and as I came into the sign industry late in life I didn’t get a great deal of help from them, but anything they did do they would expect to get paid for!!! Nothing like helping out with the family business eh. Two of my kids are very good artists so if I needed a graphic and couldn’t find anything suitable I just use to get one of them to draw something then I would vectorise it.
Unfortunatly now I am divorced I don’t see very much of them and I don’t get any help from them at all, shame really because it would have been nice if they had worked alongside me.

thats a shame Martin, i’m too divorced, but have the kids every fortnight from thruspm thru to tuesday am, and god help if she tries to change it !! they all love to help, sometimes its hard, the younger lad gets upse if i say he can’t help on a ceretain job due to complexity of weeding or some other reason, but i always give em some pocket money for helping if i can,

ultimately i’d love to have them working with me at some stage in the future, the oldest is already talking of staying on for sixth form, then to college and possibly Uni (£ gulp), he’s really interested in computers and design, i put corel on his pc at home and he oftem emails me things he’s designed so he can cut them when he comes around, i think he wants to get into the design side of things, suits me !

the younger boy wants to be a pilot or mechanic in the RAF, cant keep him off my tools when doing stuff to the race car !! he’s a quick learner on practical stuff like that,

    anyways, rambling on now !!
