well as the header suggests, this is a quick internal shop sgn i did on monday morning,

about as basic as a sign could be i guess, but it was new to me to actually be cutting a shape !!

cut using a jigsaw ( fine tooth metal cuting blade ) and a cut vinyl template as a guide,

900x300mm, made from 10mm pvc board and supported with 40lb fishing line !

purple is ultramark matt, yellow is 651 gloss,

really basic i know, but it’s my first shaped sign !!!

he didnt know what he wanted to start with, other than choosing colours and dictating the font, so my orginal design incorporated my own re-drawn paint brush, eventually he decided on the finished item as seen here,

Looks good Hugh …. might be a basic sign but still looks good and as long as the customer was happy then great. I like the original design you did … shame he didnt opt for the paint brush … that would have looked great.

I remember being excited and posting my first a-board on here … was only white graphics … but even so it was the fact that it was my first one!!!

Looks very good Hugh, did you use matt vinyl for the purple and the yellow?

thanks carrie ! i would’ve liked to do the brush version too, just to be different if nothing else !

he wanted the sign, originally, to kind of ‘point’ to the corner of the shop where the display is set up, arrows etc looked naff, so i came up with the brush, only took about 15mins to re-draw it from a bmp image i googled, would not have been the simplist of things to cut and put together, but i was more interested in just doing it !

Jayne, i think the purple is ultramark, but yes, it is matt finish, the yellow was gloss, the ultramark doesnt weed brilliantly so i decided against using the matt yellow on this font !

ps, it’s double sided too as the display is in a bay window, looks quite nice as it’s lit from above.

nice job mate well done 😀
sometimes these signs may not be very demanding as for the design but these are the ones you can crash out for good money

Nice one Hugh, I love doing shaped stuff as its just a bit different from the run of the mill square board. You seem to be learning fast its not always about what would be best for the customer but about what the customer wants. You had a good idea which I agree would have worked for the customer and was certainly more eye catching but the customer didn’t think so, never mind you still did the job and the customer is happy,
I hope you took the time to shape the board into account with the price, I know I didn’t with my first shaped sign because I just wanted to do it !!! I ended up regretting it because people thought for I while I would just cut stuff to shape for no extra charge!!!
As for the fishing line, I use it quite a lot but normally use 60lbs test, I have all sorts of fittings for mounting signs to suspended ceilings but sometimes fishing line works best for me.

    thank you !!

as he is my customer who provides the most repeat work, the same guy who let me do his shop, knowing i’d never done one before, so for him i usually dont go mad with the pricing, i charged £70 for that one,

took about half an hour max for design (excluding the brush !), about an hour to cut and finish, and maybe an hour to cut/weed/tape/apply, so in all not a bad price (especially considering the board / vinyl were left overs from other jobs / or owe me virtually nothing !),

did i charge about right ?
