  • Sign Cleaning – what your thoughts on it?

I’m not about to go around cleaning signs but there is a local company that advertises it and it got me thinking about offering a contract service for sign cleaning, I’ll speak to this company but what are your thoughts and any experience of this and what do you think about the idea?

Personally I have never been asked to clean a sign but there sure are a lot of dirty ones out there 🙄 :lol1:

    Cheers

I think it seems like a reasonable service to offer.
Sometimes all a sign needs is a good cleaning.
And you could also advise the person when their sign can’t be helped and quote them on a new one.
You’d probably have to have some sort of waiver if you caused damage (accidentally) to their sign while cleaning it.
Maybe point out certain areas that may be problematic before cleaning the sign.
I know some painted sign companies here who will go out and clean and the wax (with car polish I think) old faded painted signs to refurb them.

    H Warren,
We have a few contracts to clean signs. Basically we offer a monthly clean and inspection with a report on the condition of the sign. Additionally, we can offer assistance on updating the sign and have in fact just rebranded a factory and 6 vehicles after a name change. This came from the sign maintenance contract. Most companies don’t even think about the condition of their signs as once they are installed, they forget about them. I have found it a great way to build relationships and add another string to our bow. We don’t make a mint (no pun intended) but it all helps.

    i’m with mr Mindham there,

while i don’t have any contracts to do it, I do have sign maintenance and cleaning on most of my literature,

i’ve never been asked to specifically go and clean a sign but do get repair jobs, it’s fruitful enough to be worth getting the ladders out and changing a few bulbs, ballast thingies etc. does occasionally lead to other work too.

I do get the impression that some people just think you’re gonna condemn their sign and rip em off, thus, I wonder how many just don’t call for fear of that.

I use to have it on all my blurb, didn’t lead to any cleaning jobs as such but did get a few calls for repairs, mostly to lightboxes to replace tubes starters etc etc. As Mike has said a lot of window cleaners seem to give them a wipe over when they are doing the windows so not sure how much actual cleaning work you would get and if it would really be worth it financially.

Always worth mentioning to the customer
    I always forget to though

They do get dirty very quickly and all that’s needed sometimes is a quick clean as Jill says

There’s a market out there up for (grab)
