  • Sign & Digital UK Exhibition, any good this year?

Posted by John Dorling on April 30, 2014 at 9:41 am

Trying to work out if I can go to Sign & Digital tomorrow. Was planning to go today but can’t. If I do go tomorrow we will have to do a late one tonight so, is it worth it? Last year’s show was very small and not really worth going so I don’t want to make loads of effort only to find it’s rubbish!

On our way now will let you know.

Last year the uk also hosted FESPA I think so might be one reason it was smaller.

    It was ok.

Lots of hardware to look at. A few suppliers.

If you’ve something or a supplier you want to see its worthwhile.

Went all the way with my apprentice who is very keen on vehicle wrapping and there was none besides one stand wrapping a bonnet (only a bonnet, rest of the car was SORN :lol1: )

If you’re in the market for a printer then it’s the right place to be, otherwise some big names were absent (Hexis, William Smith etc)

and where was the bog lorry Rob ???

Went yesterday and for someone new to this side of things like i am there was some very nice machines with some very nice price tags.

Oh and there was one or two new latex printers.

    What irritated me was:

I went to speak to a few suppliers with a view to changing from our existing ones. I had a few issues ie Carriage/Prices, but not many suppliers want to commit to anything, there was a lot of waffle finished with ‘We’ll call you after the show’.

Other than that a good day.

We went today also hoping to see suppliers wrapping super cars and showing off new wrap films, maybe even some chrome wrapping but as Warren said there was absolutely nothing 🙄 apart from that bloke with the bonnet….

Also wanted to buy the latest Impact Graphics Solutions vehicle outlines as they usually do a special show price but they weren’t there either.

Drooled over the new Mimaki flatbed printer and had an in depth demo of the
Clarity pro software so not all bad.

Dan they were there and the offer was 89+ vat. Give them a call you never know they may still do the same deal.

For me, as an exhibitor, I thought it was excellent!! I didn’t get chance to look around the show other than the build up and break down as the stand was heaving most of the time.

We’ve booked our stand for next year already, and apparently it’s going to be in the new halls (18 & 19) which haven’t even finished being built yet!!

Lots of familiar faces, end users and suppliers alike. I’ve always loved Sign UK and look forward to next year.

did go on the first day, but wasn’t really for me this year, im only a vehicle wrapper and really wanted to meet up with some suppliers and watch some demos, none of that was around except for the sign and digital stand,

Did buy some tools from sign and digital but then forgot to pick them up, hopefully they said they will be sending it out to me. If I receive them then im will become a loyal customer

Maybe next year Warren, "if they have the space" :lol1:
The show has progressively got smaller every year. In 2015, It is rumoured it will be held in the toilets. 😉

I was there the three days…

Day one, I arrived late afternoon due to Holiday Inn double booking 50 rooms.
Day Two, Spent all day at the show…
Day Three, arrived around 2pm due to a traffic jam with my taxi stuck in it, then i was stuck in it in the taxi on way to the halls. 🙄
Combined i lost a full day at the show due to Holiday Inn. 👿

anyway, i had around 17 meetings over the 3 days and only missed two.
i saw very little of the show but what i did see was pretty good.
There was the obvious absence of Hexis, Wm. Smiths amongst others… which was noticeable because live demos always create more of a buzz.

I know i am knocking the show for it shrinking year to year, but in my opinion "its better smaller". and if faversham house ever actually listened to the advice and feedback they often ask for they may save a bit of face and money in the process.

Sounds like a lot of hassle for you this time Rob

I’m with you on the smaller set up of the exhibitions
We went to the massive FESPA Excel London 2013 and I remember my wife saying she preferred the NEC because it was more in the ‘real world’ for the smaller buyer

    Nigel,

You looked liked you had a great time everytime I looked over you had a drink and some sort of edible delight in your hand.

Hadn’t been for a few years but came away disappointed. Too much emphasise on print and not enough sign makers stuff (how many companies are selling LED’s now?).
Loved the letter making machines but too expensive and would have liked to have seen some wrapping demo’s – it’s just so fascinating to watch experts in action!
