    Hello all,

I am taking the big step into a unit next week. Could anyone post pics of your work area? would be interesting to see other peoples layouts. I know size etc will make a difference.

    Thanks

    Ian

Already quite a few posts on the forum about this subject Ian so you might be quicker having a look through some of the old posts for ideas.

That link is a prime example as to why we do not allow "off-site" picture image linking… and ask everyone to "attach their pictures using the fascilities provided"

see the post by "stickerland" in comparison to all those that "attached" their workshop pictures.

    Hello,

How big is the cutting table?

    Thanks

Hi Ian, my cutting take is 2500 x 3500 made up of 4 sections on heavy duty casters with brakes on, that was I can move them around if I need a longer surface or if I need to move them to the side of the workshop so I can work on really big stuff on the floor.

    The sections are 2 benches both 1250 x 2200 and 2 benches 1250 x 1300

I also move them back as my workshop doubles as a photo studio at weekends and evenings… Really handy actually

I’d be interested to see the ‘working from home’ setups if anyone would like to share how they maximise the use of a small area.

Here’s ours, a little untidy and since these photos were taken we’ve put up a Reception / Modest Showroom area.

Looks just how a busy sign shop should look neil, great stuff mate.
one thing though, WHY did i have you down as a strictly "by the brush" type sign maker??? 😕 i see vinyl cutters, mac computer, gerber edge printer, t-shirt press etc etc etc :lol1:
there you go, i learn something new every day!

now that said, you just recently posted a very nice vinyl lettered van just recently! 😕 i need my head looked at me thinks! :lol1:

Haha, fooled you! cheers Rob. We also have a Digital printer in another room. All the Honours Boards you see are hand painted and gold leaf.
20 years ago I could make a good living in our area using just a brush but over the years things have changed. It took me a while to embrace technology but we’ve had to keep up and stay competitive and offer what customers want.
Over the past year to 18 months I’ve invested a few bob in the business buying the printer and other stuff. We have a SteelTrak cutter coming Friday which should help us a great deal with cutting boards and making trays etc.
    Onwards and upwards aye.

I still love to get the brushes out though whenever I can but I’m a little slower than I used to be but maybe that’s just my age!!

Looks very nice Neil, I am guessing with some of what I can see being movable you can get vehicles in to do.

Not sure where the untidy comes from though, you should see my place………. or maybe you shouldn’t. It’s that bad even the pig’s moved out :lol1: :lol1:

Thanks Martin, you guessed right. We can move racks etc. to get vans in.
Since these photos were taken we’ve put up a modest reception area with a few sample bits and bobs and a counter top for the card machine.
This also stops customers just wandering into the workshop.

I’m sure your pig wants to move back in today looking at the weather!!! 😀 😀

Just had a thought about this topic, is it safe for us to post pics of our kit in an open forum?

Neil – i seem to recognize one of those plotters 😉

    nice looking work shop.

Ian – you have been reading the daily mail to much 😀
dont worry too much about it the low life are more interested in metal these days easier and more profitable than second hand signmaking equipment – hy they can get a brand new plotter for £200 from ebay!

they may just be interested in that new roll of wrap chrome (see other thread)
    😮
