  • should i use aluminium or plastic channels for menu board?

Posted by Steve Underhill on February 25, 2008 at 3:20 pm

I need to locate a source of these for a menu board, the sliding panels are made from 3mm dibond and need to be slid out and reversed when the menu changes.
Does anyone know where I can buy this extrusion from?
Which ideally is made from aluminium.
I had the Ashby catalogue here the other day but it may be at home, so cant check f they do it.
I’m not sure what the correct term is for them, so dont know what to ask for.

I have drawn a diagram to show what I mean.
    Thanks in advance

    Steve,
These are common aluminium extruded profiles, have a look in your local yellow pages for aluminium stockists, one of them should stock them.

Gravograph sells it for engraving laminates, not sure if it will accept 3mm though. There is also a company in the north east Engraving Materials, they sell it also.

    Daft question:

How do you fix these to the substrate?

I have used double sided tape in the past. Not the foam stuff, the thin stuff.

I made some signs just like this last week and they turned out a treat.
