Posted by Jason Xuereb on July 25, 2008 at 7:59 amShould I print this on translucent or use translucent solid vinyl and loose the circles?
Its for our office to make it more colourful.

I’m not sure the association with the graphics and your business/theme?
i think it would look nice though… i would cut it in transparent colour tinted vinyl and overlay the new colours. i think the circles make it to be honest… -
me too. I like the circles. you could mix transclucent with coloured etched. or a light etched and a more solid for the two smaller figures..

I’d keep the circles, I think it breaks up the blue which might be a bit bland without them.

I think the circles would look ok as a proper halftone fade but they just seem like irregular shapes in an irregular pattern to me

Hey Rob,
Whats transperant tinted vinyl?
Is this like a clear coloured vinyl?

Hi Jason,
It is exactly that a tinted vinyl that you can see through, not to be confused with translucent. Hexis do a range called transparent plus. Bit like looking through them crappy 3D glasses.Steve

I would keep the circles and maybe emphasize them even more by giving them a stroke…..I would print it on matt clear vinyl [works both ways] and plotter cut out certain section if you can register print and cut 😀

yes jason… just as steve has said mate… the amount of times i have been corrected on the boards by people thinking i should be saying translucent. 🙄 i just don’t even reply… :lol1:
i used to buy allot of this stuff from x-film many moons ago but switched to more expensive stained glass films as they were much clearer and had a vast array of textures, colours etc
anyway… transparent coloured films. 😀"similar" type films in this demo,. but not transparent as such… marbled…

Cheers guys,
I’ll do some testing. The idea behind the translucent or clear materials it that during the day from around 10am till 4pm the sun comes around and hits this portion of the office. It would really light up on the inside of the office when we have clients.
I’ll take photos of the materials I’ve tried or using on the glass so everyone can have it as a reference in the future.
The reason I didn’t want to print on a translucent is because from the other side it would just appear white. During the day this isn’t a problem because the windows as so heavily tinted. But at night if we left the lights on it should show through. Even though they are the side windows of the office no one can see. If this works I’m thinking of doing a display on the front windows and turning it into a massive light box as such. I won’t have my view for long so it won’t really matter.
Cheers guys you guys are great.

Keep an eye out in shopping centres Jason. A lot of them are using transparent colour prints on the glass entry doors now.
My only thought, is that the image will not be a ‘strong’ image with lots of light shining thru. Its more a subtle effect, than something in your face.
I think it would look excellent tho. Have your tried printing to a crystal glass look. Not see thru, but the image will show on both sides, and the effect is excellent if you get the right piccy.

Have you considered making the background in the tinted transparent, including the large figures, and making the small figures in an opaque?
