Got a sample of blackboard vinyl today. Is it really worth buying this type of vinyl? I’ve got the standard blackboard paint, it goes on to most materials really well and drys quickly, so is there a point to having it in vinyl? 😕

Paint is definatley the easy way of doing it – the only trouble I found was that it doesnt look nice and new for very long and needs repainting fairly often (depending on now often they change the text of course). And some of the “wet chalk” markers don’t wipe off very well either – but this seems to depend on the brand.
If I get asked for a black board job I try and persuade the customer to pay the extra and have the “proper” black board laminate material which is great and seems to last forever. The only thing is it is horrid to cut/work with as it is so brittle, but it does work very well.

Seems painting is the way to go then 😀 Reason I asked initially is because I wanted to do a range of samples for the shop, sort of display pieces. Since I posted this I have done a few tests with the paint and found the vinyl sticks to it okay, and if I use a small gloss roller and do a couple of coats (with a light sand inbetween) I get a really nice finish.

Just got to sell some now 😉
