Our insurance was due a couple of months ago and the same thing happened, almost doubled. My broker told me it was due to changes in the industry and because of all the claims that were being made due to bad weather. If you are a member of the FSB try giving them a ring as I believe they have discounted rates for members.

I would suggest you try and arrange your insurance through a broker. Going direct to an insurance company is not always the best way to do it. A good insurance Broker should be shopping around on your behalf to make sure you get the best deal you can.

Then again – you may already be using a broker in which case I suggest you try phoning one or two others in your area to see if they can do a better deal for you.

    just an update.

the insurance quote isn`t 50% more. Its nearly double. My broker so far has only been able to find one company that will insure the shop.

No body eles wants to know. The broker says many insurances are now just concentrating on joe public. And don`t want to insure business.

Other are using any excuse to refuse to quote. Here are a few we have had..

Not enough security – we have window shutters, alarm that rings the police straight away, steel rear doors with internal cross bracing, vibrator detectors on the doors, internal steel doors.

    Too greater risk??
Claimed too many times – once, for storm damage to the roof. Total bill was £650, I had to pay the first £500.

And the best one- because we cut vinyl????
