Posted by Cheryl Smith on May 9, 2012 at 6:16 am

been using Corel since i dont know when and when it comes to selecting a few objects to make them into a group, ive always selected individually holding down the shift key which selects each object together until I group them….
this option has stopped working with X5 which is really a pain in the @@@@@
any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated….
    thanks

Have you tried a default restore? Press F8 on start-up. Had a quick google and I don’t see anybody else mentioning that it is no longer an available option. Might be wrong though.

We had a customer who couldnt use Shift with other short cut keys as they installed a program that had hijacked the Shift key and was running in the background.
They had installed and were running a program called SmartClose which hijacked our shift key.

When i was in tech support, a very kranky customer called up saying he couldnt Shift select anymore.. Tried everything , couldnt figure it out.
Then it just pop in there. I asked him to try the other Shift key on the keyboard. There was a 5 second pause, then a "OH, guess it was my keyboard, CLICK.

I googled "Corel shift select". There was one good hit on Corels forum with someone haveing the same problem. Looks like it still unresolved

Not something I’ve ever come across, I generally do a F8 restart of Corel and everything is fine again – do remember to save your workspace if customised

i have,,,, its because ur using Parallels windows while booted in mac

my shift key does not work on the mac with either a PC keyboard or a Mac keyboard.

i yet to find a way but apparently my colleague figured out if u press a certain sequence of keys it acts like a shift key.

looking at it I dont think I can do a reboot in F8…cos as Dave says…i have parallels….BUT…it was working…then it wasnt. I wonder if re installing corel would work…but it could be a case of the keyboard being hijacked by something else…I have tried the other shift key and a combination of cmd shift selet and ctrl shift etc etc…really frustrating because i used it ALOT….just another thing going wrong to push me over to using illustrator more….but I (did) love my corel programme …thats the only reason i run parallels…

Ive also tried to re-recognize the keyboard in parallels…i may did out an old keyboard I have and see if that works ….because with this one it wont recognise the £ symbol in parallels….but ive always known that and its not something that has just happened…

would be nice to have a go at the sequence of keys Dave…if your mate knows them…

    😕 😕

I think once a MAC comes into the equation anything can happen, easy to blame Corel not so easy to correct if MAC issue.

Do you have a PC MAC? That’s an Intel based MAC, if so try using dual boot and actually run Windows 7 64 bit on it. I know of several doing it and they like it but I’m sure it’s not for everyone.

    Hi David…thanks for the pointer..
Mac has a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3.
    running windows XP in parallel..
I love my mac…but was ‘brought up’ with CorelDraw which I love…
I think i might do a ticket for parallels to try sort it out…id really rather not shell out to windows if at all possible… if anything it is ‘making’ me use illustrator alot more to learn to use it…

Where in the world are you? I ask because it seems that software pricing outside the U.S. is something else. Here Windows is $125.

Illustrator just never fits my work flow, we could argue features and everything but that’s a waste of time, I do signs and general print and CorelDRAW fits like a glove, Illustrator just has too many limitations for me. I can’t even do a multi-page business card layout and send a mult-ipage PDF without a plug-in

I can still use Corel…but its this one glitch I have with it….im the same as you…I really like Coreldraw…there are some problems with colour matching when sent to print…but that generally gets sorted.

Send me your Adobe and Corel color management settings and I can sort that out.
