  • Sheet Material Price…Huge Variations

We produce a vertical aboard that has been a steady seller over the past three to four years.
It has a steel base that holds 19mm foam board. The price of this aboard has risen due to the increase in steel prices going through the roof over the last 2 years.
I thought i’d have a look at getting material costs down. I phoned one of my regular suppliers and he said that he would look into holding the price at £120.00 for a 10 x 4ft sheet even though they had price increases lately.
OK i thought, i’ll phone a second supplier who i have been using more and more lately (due to better prices and service).
They looked into it as it is something i have never had from them before…..£62 was the reply. I made sure that the foam was suitable for external signage, yes it is.
Then the original supplier came back to me and confirmed that he could hold the price at £120.00, i explained that i could now supply him if he was interested. He questioned the grade and quality of the product. I explained that i had been assured it is Grade A and suitable for internal and external signage.
He was not happy, unlike me!!
So when my original supplier phoned

i am all for in house production whenever it is possible, so well done on the price/product find mate.
what i am wondering mate is, are your a-boards something custom that are not on the market?
we used to build our own a while back in-house but as the prices of a-boards comes down, and modern looking and the option of lightweight ones come out, we stopped manufacturing our own.
sorry if i am sounding daft, but 19mm foam board with steel base sounds like it will weigh a fair bit and as you said, costs are rising, so why not just buy in as and when needed?

sorry mate, im being a nosey bugger… just tell me to sod off.

Cameron, your price list dosnt give an 8×4 option, but if it did, its wouldn’t be that much more if worked out pro rata for your 10 x 5 sheets?

sorry didnt realise this was in the "for all to see bit"

Got it delivered, the material is finished nicely around the edge which will improve the appearance of the vertical aboards i sell.

Rob……….. this is the link to a picture of an aboard that we sell.

They are fairly heavy, on the coast they are popular because they don’t fall over!!
