    Hi all,
Ive be applying vehicle graphics now for the past 18 months and getting good results, but the 1 thing i do struggle with is the drop shadows and out lines, it seem so difficult to get a spot on finish ie, line to line of the two colours. This is because i struggle to see the first colour applied through the application tape.
Is there a rule of thumb to getting good results.

    Thanks

I find using paper application tape for the first layer, then i use a clear application tape for the top layer, allows you to see the underbase easier.
Although this is mostly on text, i dont like using clear app on big areas,

Barry this is a popular question and asked on a regular basis. there are a few demos and tips on the site, Try a search for layers and see what comes up. I personally prefer to buildd up the graphics before fitting to the vehicle, but some prefer to build up on site.

In a nut shell you do not need to see through the tape. place a registration marks on each corner of each layer, it can be a circle, square or line, as long as it is in the same place on each colour/layer. Then all you need to do is line up the common point.

I remember the 1st time I done an outline it was that bad I had to peel off and start again but as said above by Matt i find applying the bottom layer with the paper application tape then use the clear to apply your top layer this gives you the perfect view, though i still find I still have to place some letters down separately to get the perfect all round measurement, mostly seems to happen over longer lengths.

I always trim certain letters on my top layer right to the edge so I can see how much of a shadow I am making, if that makes sense. Works for me anyways.

Same as David in fact I find it much easier to do shadows wet and a few letters at a time as they do drift over longer names and areas.
No fancy home brews neither just use proper app fluid. A gallon goes a long way.
