  • Semi Removable sticker options for a banner??

    Hi All,
I have a bit of a tricky one here.
The local airport has a route map design fitted in a couple of locations that shows the various destination names.
These change occasionally as the season changes so they need to be removed & added to.
This has always worked fine internaly on the matt laminated foamex map as we can just use a removable vinyl for the names & just peel them off. But the exterior map is a banner in Monster Frame & due to plastisizer migration removal always leaves an adhesive residue which is hard to remove without also removing the ink from the banner!!
They are in the process of changing the map design so both will be getting replaced & while updating I am trying to improve the system if I can. Internally I am planning to use ferrous paint on the Foamex so the names can be printed on magnetic making them easier to re-use. This will clearly not work on the banner so I am wondering if anyone may have any ideas on what could be used on a banner that would remove cleanly?

There is no option really to change the banner to a different substrate as it is one in a row of 4

Thinking outside the box here. Could you put names on a magnetic material then place another magnet on the reverse of the banner where the name has to go which will hold it in place. Then when changing place names its just a case of moving the magnet on the back??

    Hi Ewan,
I do love thinking outside the box :smiles: & I like the idea but in practice, but I don’t think it would work for a couple of reasons.
1/ The bottom of the banner is pretty low down so passing people are likely to pop them off.

2/ It can get extremely windy up there & the banners can flap about quite violently at times. So much so that a couple of the smaller ones have actually dug out the render on the wall to the depth of about half an inch!!! :yikes: where the eyelets & hooks hit the wall.
3/ Slight issue of reaching the back as the banner is 4.8×2.8m although it could just be released from the springs maybe 1/4 way & folded over

It’s almost one of those impossible things. Needs to stick well but also be removable. Oxymoron me thinks 🙁

    Self-adhesive velcro?

Not too sure how pretty it would look though.

I get where you’re coming from Peter but you’d still need to remove the velcro if the destination moved so not really any better than a sticker.

I’m actually just wondering about a tape that William Hayes do. 431 Double coated clean peel tape. I’ve used it before inside & it’s great stuff as it does stick well but also removes very cleanly. Only problem is they say it’s NOT for outdoor use. Having said that the banners are under a bit of a canopy so protected to a degree from rain.
I may do a test run & see how it holds up.

ive done something similar in the past on banners. I printed and laminated the stickers needed and when i had to replace them i just carefully stuck the next one over it. When id get to 3-4 stickers i could lift the whole lot off easily and then start again

The problem here Jean is when they are removed there is not going to be a replacement in the same place unless that particular route comes back in maybe 6 months. Sometimes never.

I have thought about a similar idea specifically for real estate agents and allowing them the option to have a "featured home" on the vehicle wrap somewhere and keep the spot next to it open for putting a magnet so they can change it out as frequently as they want to.
