looking at upgrading our RS640 we considered the RS640, and saw a demo of the machine today.

We were also shown a Seiko Colour Painter W64-s. Supplying our own media, and our artwork (which we have drying issues with on our RS) the Seiko surprisingly impressed us both.

Prints came off the machine dry enough to handle.
A noticeable speed increase over or RS
Quality was spot on (and it was printed on it’s highest speed)
Colours much more vibrant than or RS

a 3yr parts and labour warranty against roland 1yr.

Ink is on a par with Rolands genuine.

    6 heads/colours against rolands 4 colours (8 carts 1 head)

Seiko are the owner of Epson… but having never heard much of Seiko what are people’s opinions?

Not loads to go on but i had a 64s for roughly a year before upgrading to a latex a few months ago… the only reason i upgraded was due to the nature of the stuff we do the latex was a huge benefit.

One thing id say about the seiko is they pretty much do what they say on the tin and its very user friendly, we ran it on triangle inks and were happy with the results. If I’m right, i think HP use to use the seiko brand to test the market with new printers before allowing it to bring down the HP brand should it fail i.e. the HP9000 was the 1st/2nd generation 64s seikos rebranded.
