When doing a design for a vehicle we quite often take a reference measurement from the vehicle, take a digital photo and import this in to Flexi to re-size to scale and then layout the graphics.

Somebody came up with a good idea today and that was to use an offcut of magnetic material cut to a 60Cm3cm strip – lay this on the surface of the vehicle, take the photo – and then you have an instance reference, without having to search around for that illusive bit of paper you jotted the dimensions (and sods law means you lost it somewhere)

What I use is a piece of light corriboard 10 inch square with a cut out 5 inch circle with pieces of magnetic on each corner. All I have to do is slap in on vehicle and take a few pics. On dark vehicles, I use a white piece of corri.
When pics are downloaded, all you have to do is make a 10 inch box ( in Corel make box and 5 inch circle centre/combine) scale pic up to size and away you go.
Using a light corriboard means that you can fold it and keep in work book.
Will post pic of truck using this method

    we’ve used a 6″ magnetic circle before….same idea
take the shot – scale to size. More often than not I forget to take it with me to sites 😉 (I can be a bit of a ding bat)
so I take measurements of wheel base.
Center of front wheel to center of back wheel – same thing scale to size

Good idea, but the smaller the item you use to get scale, the more the error is enlarged if you are a tiny bit out. I keep a 1 metre strip of foamex in the motor, which I tape to buildings etc. It helps to give me a fairly accurate idea of scale for photographic visuals.
