I was asked a wee while ago to do a couple of in-service nights with the local art department to teach them various things about corel draw. I spent two very enjoyful evenings with them all and they learnt quite a lot although I think they went away with their minds a on a bit of overload!!

I now have been asked to produce some step by step demo’s on paper so that they can now teach the kids how to use this. Rather than doing that I was going to compile a CD with various Screen movement’s on a video file so they can watch it being done. The only snag is:

WHERE DO I FIND THE SOFTWARE TO DO THIS??!

    Does anyone know?

    Cheers

    Gav

hi gav… best way to learn anything, i think is by video footage.. hense the reason for the forum. ๐Ÿ˜‰

i spoke to mike about this kind of thing also.. “on screen software demos and the like”
the best way i have seen this done is by signlab.
when i purchased signlab v5 they sent me a video or 2 on using the software. it was great. i learned loads of new stuff.. simply things but stuff i had never tried. anyway…

what the guy had done was:
rent yourself a projector. pc world may do this.. as they sell them.
if they dont somone will !

use a video camera and point it at the backdrop you will get with projector.

the large 50 inch x 50 inch backdrop now becomes your computer screen
but allows you to video it instead of the lines moving up the screen that you would normaly get videoing a monitor.
you just sit thre talking your way through demonstration. all the veiwers see is mouse moving around the screen clear as day with your voice over.

if you have sky TV you may have seen a program called .TV they did daily tutorials on various software in exactly the same way.

hope this helps if not… well it may somone else ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Gav,

There are quite a few out there to be had. Perform a Google search using words like screen, record, program, etc.

The one I currently use for my demos is called CamTasia by Tech Smith. More information direct from their site. ๐Ÿ™‚

John Cadlink used to sell a training video, they didn’t give them away. By memory they were quite expensive something like ยฃ195 I think.

Maybe Robert moaned at ’em? they tend to have a habit of giving things away if you moan a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

    hi john
brian maybe right, i can’t remember if they said it was free or if they just gave us it free at the time.
we upgraded one of our 4.95 & also bought signlab v5 colour master from solutions 2. when they came it had the signlab video & signlab mouse mats with it..
i just took it these were free. sorry to confuse ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

I bought “Signlab made Easy” by Rob Ivers, I bought it direct from him in the US $200 dollars, I believe Cadlink sell it in the UK for ยฃ200,

Its a 3CD set with loads of good lessons in motion, its put together using Lotus Screencam.

I have never had the time to sit and learn my Signlab, this was for Colormaster 5, we have E6 here also. Those times that I have sat down its been a really great help like having someone over your shoulder so to speak.

I have a Dell Precision workstation here with twin 21″ monitors, so you can have the program open in one and the training cd in the other.

I don’t know anything about Lotus Screencam but that’s what he used,

Hope this helps, I think it would be great to see similar stuff from Gerber, or Adobe for that matter.

    Robert,

Yes, voice over is possible. In fact, with the new version, two tracks are possible. Plus the suite offers other โ€œaudioโ€ tools.

On the recent SignLab demo CD you received, I used the older software that only allowed for one track, so I used other software to mix everything together then just ported the new โ€œsingleโ€ track into the video. The updated software also allows you to split out the video and audio and save each as an independent files.

I didnโ€™t get the โ€œfreeโ€ deal Daniel mentions, but thought it well worth what I purchased it for.
