ok, this is kind of embarassing, and everyone’s scared of, or been scared by something right ? anyways, since i saw a few minutes of 28 days the other eve, and couldnt sleep, i was giving this some thoguht !

what are the five most scary films you’ve ever seen, not so much those that made you jump, but those that screwed your head or freaked you out for a while after seeing them, like always looking over your shoulder when out at night, like you no longer take the short cut thru the woods in the dark anymore, the ones that made ya sleep with the light on etc ? those that still make you look away when the freaky bit comes on !! sure ya know what i mean !

    mine, in no particular order,

The Fog, (original film i saw at about 14yr old ) if beach fishing alone and the fog rolls in, i’m gone !!

Jaws (wouldnt get in the bath for a week, 10yr old )

life force ( 14yr old, didnt sleep for two days )

the mummy (boris carloffs 15yr old, and the more recent ! ), caused my stoopid reaction at a museum !

    and most recently,

28 days (dont ask why, but that film just freaks me, no probs watching it, but after !!)

i think the earliest film i remember scaring me, was the old sinbad or jason and the argonoughts film where the skeletons rise up outta the ground !

stoopid thing is, i aint scared of creepy crawlies or any of the usual stuff, ghosts ? no prblem ! monsters ? no probs ! aliens ? love em ! it just seems to be walking dead skeletal type things ! which makes it the more odd that 28 days freaked me, as zombie films dont bother me !!

oh, and dont ever think of running across the beach dressed as a mummy near me, you’ll likely end up on the wrong end of a fillet knife as i fill me trousers !!!

damn, i know i aint the only one !!!

The Changelling with George C Scott in it.

Where he takes a ball that keeps appearing in the house and takes it clear accross town and throws it in the river, then when he gets home, he closes the door and all you can hear is thump, thump, thump and he turns to see the ball rolling down the stairs :yikes:

The other ones are Rob’s demo’s, now they are scary 😀

Night of the Living Dead (George Romero) Filmed near here in the late 1960s….
The film was about the dead coming back to life and cannibalizing others.
I lived in front of a graveyard at the time.
My sis took me to see it at the drive-in when I was nine, and I had nightmares for a month!
I thought if I looked out the window I would see hungry zombies staggering towards my house!
Now watching it, the flick is quite hokey & campy….but it scared me terribly.
Only saw Jaws & The Exorcist once…once was enough.
The original The Fog is also scary.
I think “Mothman” is scary…it was filmed near here too.
    Love….Jill

‘The Birds’……still don’t like seeing large flocks of birds together!!!!

Also, although not a film, the Daleks off Dr Who when still in B&W (used to hide behind the settee! – I was only about 5 or 6!)

I rarely watch scary movies…. almost all of them frighten me … nearly as much as looking in the mirror first thing in the morning!! 😮
Last one I watched was the remake of The Amityville Horror and also The Bogeyman …. I was scared to open the wardrobe door after watching that one! :lol1: …. what a tube I am!

When I was younger Night of The Living Dead, The Omen and The Shining.

    I love horror movies.

Christopher Lee as Dracula: Prince of Darkness is the first horror film i saw when I was 6. My dad let me stay up late to watch it. Stayed up late every Friday night to watch a scary film every week from then – a bit safer watching with your dad!!

The recent remake fo the Mummy was a cool film, and Mothman Prophesies is an underated film – should sit up there with some of the classics.

My wife was really freaked out by an X-files episode about a guy called Tooms. He could squeeze through air ducts, I can’t even mention his name!

    Top five:
1 Dracula:Prince of Darkness – has to be
    2 The Ring
3 Frankenstein – The Boris Karloff original
4 Nightmare on Elm Street – not a great film but Freddy Kruger is a brill Monster
    5 Alien

If you want to get over Zombie fears watch Shaun of the Dead, it’s an excellent British spoof and great film.

Try to avoid horrors where I can … but Im the type of person that doesnt turn them off once they are on either :lol1: Gluten for punishment …. then for the next few weeks Im looking over my shoulder …. or when Im left in the work unit on my own I suddenly get all these awful thoughts …. and the slightest noise :yikes: I have a fantastic imagination when it comes to scaring myself …. I hate the dark too … Im 27 and I will openly admit I am afraid of the dark …. never grown out of it!! 😳

I remember the first horror I saw was at my neighbours when I was really young ….. “Dolls” …… I had nightmares for weeks and I made my mum remove every single doll and teddy out of my room in fear of them coming to life. Michael Jacksons movie video to “Thriller” …. again watched at a neighbours house and scared the life out of me :lol1: and Freddy and the Nightmare on Elm Street films … where he sucks the peep down into the bed … and where he drags the girl around the bedroom …. oooh those really bothered me when I would be trying to get to sleep 😮

Never used to have a problem with zombie films until I met Steve … he has a thing about them ….. well I used to laugh at him and it never bothered me at all ….. now since living with him its obviously rubbed off on me because now I hate zombie movies …. the thoughts play on my mind for ages and I too watched 28 days later at the weekend ….. and then lay in bed afterwards and was planning our escape if ever there were zombies and what my choice of weapon would be … etc etc ….. :lol1:

Im not to keen on anything with ghosts, demons etc … films where you can actually almost believe it can happen … if you know what I mean. More true to life stuff.

Most memorable was seeing the “previously on” bits at the beginning of an episode of Salom lot (spelling?). It had David Sole in it and it was on in the early 80’s

Me and my mates had set up our tents near a small lake up in the hill and had come back for some water etc, we just saw the beginning while looking through the kitchen door.
We all went up the next morning to collect our tents and we never camped out again for years 😳

Don’t watch horror films normally so that’s about it for me, other than spoofs.

The scariest film for me was the Excorcist. When she spoke in a man’s voice and turned her head through 360 – I’m getting the creeps just thinking about it now.

I also remember an episode of “The Munsters” (1960’s TV show) – In which an Alien spoke to Herman Munster (Herman thought the Alien was a practical Joker – But the punchline was he really was an Alien) – The final scene was a close up of the Alien saying “My – These Earth people are rude” – And the realisation that this was a real Alien was the scary bit…You had to be there 😕 Does anyone remember it?

Another one was the 1960’s Twilight Zone – the episode with William Shatner on an aeroplane – every time he looked out of the window of the plane he could see a man walking on the wing.

Funny how childhood memories stick with you – I’m sure if I saw these now they wouldn’t bother me at all (apart from the exorcist that is 😕 ).

Saw ‘White Noise’ in the cinema when in came out, I normally like scary movies, but this one scared the shit out of me. Everytime the TV goes fuzzy now it sends a chill down my spine.

    Good one Hugh!

    1/ The Excorsist

2/ The Evil Dead (part one)

    3/ The Blair Witch Project

4/ Dracula’s Daughter (old black & white jobbie)

5/ Tales from the Crypt (Had Joan Collins in it 😮 )

I do agree with Lynn, Carrie was very good, the bit with the hand coming up from the ground.

    😀

right there with you on all the above points !! when i lived on my own in my flat, i couldnt walk into a room without turning the light on, i’d tell myself i was being stupid, but still ! had an almost obsessive compulsive way of going to bed too, out the kitchen first, light off, door shut, thru the living room, light off door shut, kids room dor was always shut if they weren’t staying, into bathroom, shower, teeth, light left on, door shut, hall way light off as i went into bedroom (light on first), then close door behind, the bathroom light would leave enough light thru the stained glas bits above the doors to see anything move when the bedroom light was off !! pathetic when i think of it, but still did it,

often get the creeps when fishing alone at night on the beach, usually cos of the damned foxes til about 1am, then just cos it’s too quiet, or to windy to hear owt, rarely use my little shelter at night on my own, cos i cant se behind it if i need too, but stil i go ! the walk to the car after packing up is always the worst for some reason, i think cos my footseps on the beach echo against the buildings nearby ! i hate the dark with a passion !

The really scarey ones are usually the portrayal of real life, like news at ten

A film is fantasy, real life scares the craps out of me. (9 11, lockerbie, dunblane etc.)

odd isnt it Pete, none of the real stuff bothers me, if it happens it happens, i’ve never been afraid of dying, just how, i’d sooner a few minutes of panic than to meet a mummy wondering the corridors !!

The Exorcist done it for me.

I saw it when i was 11 and probably shouldn`t have.

The Exorcist 3 with George C Scott is also very scary in it`s own right. It was on Sky just the other night.

I downloaded the audio book of the Exorcist with William Blatty actually narrating his book. Twice as scary as the film as Blatty was easily able to fill your mind with stuff he was unable to produce on screen.

“…and i am the Devil, now kindly undo these straps” 👿 😮 😀

Stephen King`s “Salem`s Lot” also spooked me.

I just don’t like seeing all the above mentioned movies, but in reality is just coz’ i refuse myself to believe anything like that or scientific fiction it’s easier to see my tears with a drama or a nice romance 😳

    quote Hugh Potter:

Hugh once i was fishing alone, completely in the dark, sitting near the water, very calm night, couldn’t see my fingers nor any part of the body without light, high tide, i just had checked the bait, turned off the light and there i go to launch it, 1 second after launch i heard a big BOOOMMM, 😮
3 secs later a huge light points right in my face, THAT really scared the hell out of me,…
turns out that it was a “sneaky” patrol boat without any light not more then 5 meters from me, i had almost killed one of the guards. :lol1:
5 mins later i had been arrested and taken to police station, i’ve been there for 3 hours trying to explain them that it wasn’t on purpose 😳

They are our biggest export Lynn, 4 blokes that entertain children throughout the world, singing songs etc.

Once the kids hear a song, they sing it over and over and over….

Scares me to death that my kids will watch the video and just keep singing 🙁

That was one weird film. Seen it a couple of times but not for years.
All in black & white, cant remember the story except a guy with a big quiff staying with a really weird family.

thats such a funny story !!! cant wait to tell the lads that one down the pub after tuesdays match !!!

as i say, its usually the foxes that make me jump, only time i scared myself was when i cast out and the multiplier immediately birdied, locking it solid, the line snapped just in front of me with a huge ‘CRACK’ that and the mist in my headlight beam that had flown off of the wet reel made it sound and look like something was about to appear !
