Brilliant Henry can I ask what media you use for that?

I blast steel mostly, occasionally fibreglass boats, but would like to get into sign blasting since I have the gear.

    Any tips appreciated.

    Cheers

    Dave

can i ask why you fixed the letters to the sign before blasting henry, or is that a daft question.. 😕 just me being nosey. 😉 😆

also, the darkening of the wood, is that a stain of some sort or have you actualy burned the wood then a clear stain?

again, just me being nosey mate.. 😉

em sorry brian.. kinda high-jacked your post mate 😕

    Dave,

I use a fine sand the size here is B7 (silicasand) very dangerous I guess without the right breathing gear. I have 4 tons or had 4 tons in 20kg sacks.

I have tried Anchor, 3M and Aslan sandblast resist but like Hartco the best, works best in my Summa T series machine, its available in the UK too don’t have the number here at home ( its a bank holiday here today thursday!)

All my equipment is made by Clemco http://www.clemcoindustries.com, I blast signs with a 6.5mm (1/4″ nozzle). I have an Atlas Copco diesel compressor 2500litres per minute not sure about cfm 🙂

The project in the pictures was abit unusual, the guy wanted an old looking sign for a diving center,

I bought new lengths of tanalised timber fixed them together, cut the ends with a jigsaw first, then cut out all the letters in wood, wanted a flat area for them to sit on, and also needed thinner letters so I used them as a stencil I blasted around them, then stained the wood with different stains, then blasted again to make it look more distressed, i then removed the letters as the tops were now damaged from blasting, but put them through the bandsaw like slicing ham so I got a letter half the thickness and damage free, pianted and mounted them and added the rope….sign finished.
