    Hi All

We have a fascia job for a shop with large windows and they have asked for etch circles at intervals to stop people walking into them. Very straightforward but are there any legal / best practice guides on how high they should be and the spacing between them?

Sure I saw this discussed sometime back but can’t seem to find it.

    Cheers

    What Regulation 14 requires

The Regulation requires that every window or other transparent or translucent surface in a wall, partition, door or gate should, where necessary for reasons of health or safety, be of a safety material or be protected against breakage of the transparent or translucent material; and be appropriately marked or incorporate features to make it apparent.

I am not aware of any best practice guides…would be interesting…

    Cheers

Regulation 14 doesn’t stipulate design/size for manifestations, only that the area of glass should be apparent. The manifestations can be as large or as subtle as you wish, providing they do what they are supposed to do; stop persons walking into a pane of glass they didn’t think was there.

We’ve done various car dealerships for BMW, Mercedes and Porsche and most have stipulated two rows of vinyl etch manifestation at 900mm and 1400mm from ground level. Designs tend to be 50mm circles at 150mm centres, or 50mm squares.

We spent Monday doing similar dots to the ones mentioned by Dave, but 850mm and 1450mm up 10mm dots with 3mm spaces……. 😀

    I would imagine the 850 – 900mm is for wheelchair access (?)

Aye, midgets and children, we did this in a sports centre recently.

P.S. can I change the spellcheck to UK english? (it’s centre!)
