here is a job i did yesterday in the freezing cold. dont you just love working with stainless steel in this weather? 😮 it was the bolt on locaters too… metal locators and steel spanner.. arrgghh 😕
windows are glass etch vinyl from europoint, applied dry in about 30 mins.
the pink phone number was inserted into the etch with a sapce to form a transparent outline.

anyway… here it is. ive lots of work like this at the moment.

Really classy looking sign and window graphics! Wish I got stuff like this 😕

Be really interested to know though, the window looks to be 6ft x 10ft.. how did you go about applying the etch without any seam lines showing? I presume it was cut from 1220?

Top job though Robert, worth getting cold for with results like that… and the pink at the bottom is genius, it looks almost as if its neon because of the gap between the numbers and the etch!

    Cheers, Dewi

    thanks folks…
its strange dewi, we have a load of stuff like this going on just now. not sure why.. its not every day you get this sorta thing, we dont anyway. but do get lots of etch work.
the etch is applied in 2 tiles. the join is to the right hand side where the oval narrows. its only about a 3mm overlap so you dont really see it.

I know what you mean, I’ve taken work for 5 hairdressers this week, all of which want window graphics and a side sign… I feel like I’m mass producing them :lol1:

Sorry to be a pain here, but with the glass etch (I haven’t done anything of that scale yet) when you tile a design and have an overlap, is it obvious from the outside or is it similar to using a coloured vinyl were you have a faint line that is virtually invisible? And would you apply from the centre and trim the edges or butt the etch to one corner of the window?

    Cheers, Dewi

not being a pain at all mate 😀

the etch was applied from left corner to right.
it was first taped into position but only to hold from rising up as i went along. just tabs of tape along the top.
started at left and lifted firt tab. removed some paper from back and started to applying dry using a felt squeegee. as i moved along i removed more paper.

always clean windows with a stanley blade. then wipe with meths.
always clean the window frames as well as faces to frame.
always wash your hands proper right before you apply it. your finger prints get left on etch and are seen from outside.

the overlap was about 3mm, you can see it, but its not bad at all.
i have in the past trimmed it very neat so you cant really see it at all. but a few years ago i did this and the shop was baking. i went back a few days later with fascia and noticed the join had shrunk a little but enough to leave a little gap. so now i just leave enough overlap for an shrinkage that may happen over time.

when applying in cold weather on glass the vinyl and etch can become very brittle and snap easy. take care 😉

    Nice job Rob.

Let me be a pain then, you started left first, is that left as we look at it or from inside? Only reason I ask is I would have started with the thick bit first (right as we see it) as it would give you a better stability for alignement of the rest of it.

Am I making sense? I do feel tired so maybe rambling 😳

    Cheers

The window etch looks great, Rob. Strangely, I used the exact same combination a couple of months ago: etch background, clear outline with pink inlaid text. I don’t mind you nicking my ideas. 😉 Or maybe beauty salons are predictable in what they like.
