S/NVQ in sign making for CSCS card
Posted by Vince Brown on January 23, 2017 at 8:25 pmHello all.
I’ve been in the industry working for small companies for around 16 years. I’m looking to expand my potential work and get a proper CSCS card sorted.
I’ve contacted CSCS direct and it seems the way to go is to get an official NVQ in sign making. The problem I’m finding is where anyone runs this course. I’m in the Hertfordshire area so does anyone have any ideas on where to go?I held a temporary card back in 2010 which can be extended for 6 months, but I will still need this qualification at the end of it as far as I can tell.
Cheers

There’s 2/3 colleges who provide this, I believe it’s mostly workplace assessments.
Make sure you’re sat down when they tell you how much it costs :yikes:

Hi Vince, I know I had mine for 3 years under:
Window films and graphics and manifestation operativeI renewed last year by sitting the health and safety test.
They only renewed for 2 years saying the same, I needed qualifications which I replied:
I pointed out that no-one I know runs a manifestation course and I was probably more qualified then and skilled at doing this than a tutor would be having 14 years experience.
Then then granted me another card
I was told to keep all training records, wrapping etc as these would all help with renewals.
Be interested to see what others have done

Unfortunately looks like nothing available in Scotland. Unless someone can tell me different. For such a big industry it seems madness there is no nationwide training programme. I’ve got this young lad here till mid feb and we were just talking the other day about an apprenticeship

Thanks all.
It does seem mad to not have anywhere to run the course for such a big industry.
I may just renew the extension Chris and see what I can do in 6 months time!
I have noticed more and more the lack of young talent coming into the industry. -
Not the best thought out idea, although it was the BSGA who helped with these changes, and unless paid to be in their club, you didn’t get a say.
Same with BS559…
A little naughty in my opinion.

It was exactly the same in the window cleaning industry. If you weren’t in the federation you weren’t classed as a professional

Hi Vince,
Try contacting Andrew Evans at Walsall college, sure he’ll be able to help.
The course is workshop and site based and he was happy to travel up to us in Blackpool. -
if you do Vince give me a shout as I would like to do this also

Hi
Does anybody have anything further in regards to this? We’re in the same boat now and all we could do was the H&S training which gives you a 6 month temp card although the "qualification" is for 2 years but this seems a stupid way of doing things.
What are you doing to get around this with contractors if you don’t have CSCS cards?
Cheers
